If you click on this [link] you'll see my first concept sketches for what the soldiers may look like in Cannon Fodder 3 (a fan-sequel to the original Cannon Fodder games released ten years ago by Sensible Software). This is the first attempt at Spriting this soldier, which was done at work using MS Paint. I intend to do a better one once I get home.

Whilst looking for Cannon Fodder related news, I discovered that when Codemasters bought out Sensible Software in 2000 Jon Hare, creator of Cannon Fodder, had begun work on a brand spanking new Cannon Fodder game that was going to be produced in 3D. At the same time, the original Cannon Fodder was being overhauled and re-released on the GameBoy Color (and a marvelous port it was too, albeit one that made a drastic change to the gameplay which ruined part of it). Eventually Cannon Fodder 3(D) was axed for whatever reason (it's possible CF-GBC didn't sell very well, prompting Codies to can the project... we'll never know for sure). I was gutted when I read this... bah.

This particular piece of PixelArt doesn't really count as part of my portfolio, as I used it mainly to play around with shading effects. it's bloody difficult to get a character looking like that pixelised. I suspect we'll be using pre-rendered 3D anyway, but I still want to toy with ideas.
