... such a range of emotions and colors in this... I can marvel at this in so many levels, not just in the clean execution of portraiture or the handling of the palette, but also the minute details and what they symbolize both to you as well as to me... both playful and deep at the same time, this rockets the spirit...

See, it's with comments like this that I finally do feel like I've finished a piece; when someone else really does SEE it.
Thanks, Gary; that's the dA experience in a nutshell!

Very nice.
Why Cathexis? Is the girl the focus of someone else's energy (ie the artist's)
Or is it that all her psychosexual engergies are being released in the form of that fiery ball semi-submerged (beneath the subconscious?)? And what about that elephant what's up with that- blocked memory? They never forget. There's some surreal stuff going on here and I like it.

In fact the subject matter so intriguing it nearly made me quite overlook the detail and fine rendering of the artwork itself

I like all of your interpretations; Cathexis because I attached emotional significance to this odd pose of hers; it was carefree and childlike, and she's had such a serious life... the tiny, crying elephant are the difficult things her memory has to carry...
Thanks so much for looking, sir!

Thanks, darlin!
Paint can be like a good marinara sauce; you add to it and add to it, let it simmer, and then add to it some more...

Thank you, sweetie!
The one positive thing that could come of all the genetic experimentation might be tiny elephants we could share our homes with...

I always keep thinking you use airbrushes when I see your pieces. It's pretty amazing what you can do with the Gouache and ink. Very majestic and colorful piece.

Ah, so it is airbrush! I wasn't too sure at first actually. My mother actually had one ages ago before somebody stole it. It is a medium I would love to try out some day.

I've been running water-based oil paints through mine for the past 5 years, with time-outs for my beloved gouache along the way...

Ever since I started watching you, you've proved to me that you can create worlds that only exist in dreams. This is no exception to that talent of yours. I applaud you, Sam, for showingme how color should work by what you want and not by what color wants

What a great comment; thanks so much, Nick...
There are times when I could just eat gouache, the colors are so appealing...
