She grew up on a farm in Funk, Nebraska; she's of Swedish descent and married my Sicilian dad; she hosted rock and roll bands in our basement when I was growing up, and would talk with them about politics and music, long into the night-- she's still in touch with those people, many of whom were teenagers in the '60s and '70s; we had a hard time getting along when I was a teenager, but she's one of my closest friends now; and she would adore you from your head down to your toes, Miss Gaby.

Whoa she is some woman! Did she get you interested in music then, maybe not directly but how she surrounded herself with it and invited all these bands in?
I've been realising that I really kinda do miss my momma at the moment. It's the first trip I've made to HK by myself without her and while it's cool to be independent and to build one-to-one relationships with my extended family, this growing-up-ness means having less time with her...I don't want to ever take her for granted ya know?
Made PAVLOVA for the first time today, looked gorgeous and tasted good. Will lay off the sugar a leetle bit next time, but chuffed at how it turned out!

I love the fiery aspect of this, the burning matches flying through the air. And yet she looks up, unafraid of the fire. It's as if she's searching for something amongst them, and is so focussed on that goal that she doesn't even realise the danger.
I feel there's a great sense of waiting and watching and somehow...peril. The phrase "playing with fire" comes to mind...
Her pen is stuck in the table of wax, the monkey trapped in the cape the long drips create, dreaming of a key...Will either ever get what they want, and be free?
A true masterpiece, Sam.
