I like the emblem on your lapel.  Somehow, it makes me want to listen to a 33.3.  Interesting.

I'm stealing style tips from ?uestlove these days, John; have you read Mo Meta Blues?

No I haven't.  I have only been reading spooky sh1t about other dimensions, the blood grail, Timbuktu and the Tree of life.

So much! Some great writing about all kinds of music, mainly, but also what it was like to grow up the child of two musicians, in the '70s. And the late, great Rich Nichols chimes in every once in awhile to offer a contrasting point of view, and sometimes just to further illuminate a moment in The Roots' development as a band.
I got addicted to musicians' memoirs after Keith Richards's "Life," and I've read an insane number of them since-- Mo Meta Blues is easily one of the best of them.

Oddly enough, my parents were musicians in the 1970s (and still are musicians today).  I know what it's like.
Every lesson was the same lesson, whether it was in reading a line of music, solving a mathematical equation, or writing a competent sentence.  It was all mathematics, and all of it was an artistic expression.  This is why I think the way I think, and do the things I do.

Sounds like a book I should look into.

I think so too!
I finally got around to buying The Roots' collaboration with Elvis Costello, "Wise Up Ghost"-- outstanding!

Gadzooks, I LOVE chai-- I have a special weakness for the TAZO chai concentrate that you brew with milk, but I'll sometimes brew black tea leaves and mix that with kamal tea masala and honey...

I saw a t-shirt quote recently that had a drawing of a chai vendor with the caption below:

India's national drink - stronger than vodka, better than rum and cheaper than scotch.

I'm guessing, you mostly brew it out of the packet? If you ever get the craving of making it all by yourself - try this:

take half a cup of toned milk and half a cup of water.
add sugar, crushed cardamom (half a pod) and bring to a boil.
Add the tea leaves and simmer on low flame till you get a rich earthy colour and it begins to smell fragrant.
Turn it off and keep the lid on for a minute or so. Serve~!

The chai masala is usually a mix of ground Indian spices, mostly clove, cardamom, cinnamon and a few others. The strongest and sweetest brews are made fully with milk, no water, but it requires a bit of skill to keep it from boiling over as it cooks.

You can try the half and half recipe yourself with some fresh spices if you just want to savour the flavour of cardamom or just clove, which is really good for winters and colds.. and Oh! How can I forget ginger. Freshly grated ginger is heaven! Would you believe it if I say that it actually relives headaches and stress.

Always, absolutely-- I love the whole idea of tea; but my heart belongs to coffee.

DBleazard In reply to SRaffa [2011-12-02 22:06:06 +0000 UTC]

Mine doesn't just belong to tea, I think it might be a teapot itself. Man, this would make a neat abstract drawing. I claim the idea! Actually, anyone can I'm not a very good drawer

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SRaffa In reply to DBleazard [2011-12-02 22:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Just keep practicing-- if you want to get good at it, you can!
I like teapots, too-- I've got one with an infuser, and one with a kind of trapdoor thing...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DBleazard In reply to SRaffa [2011-12-02 22:23:00 +0000 UTC]

Cool! I think I have a good 15 to 20 cups a day, I'm genuinely addicted. And I'll do this for tomorrow. If you get a note about a daily deviation, for me, first of all, it's the teapot.

Second of all, I will get a DD when it's the APOCALYPSE. Always optimistic! Especially as that's when I will find Zee Captain too.

SRaffa In reply to DBleazard [2011-12-02 22:40:11 +0000 UTC]

DDs are fun, that's for sure; but steadily sharpening your skills, and patiently learning as much as you can is even better (I realize you know that already)... Just keep putting the time in!
