I love the detailing in her hair and her eyes are amazing! There is just something about Katie isn't there... that makes us all want to draw her.

I really like your value transitions, your work with the small reflected lights is very inspirational.

I adore your pencil art! I often think it is an underappreciated medium, but you're an inspiring example of what can be done with it. I particularly enjoy your tendancy to exagerate the 'imperfections', it gives a certain life to everything. Perhaps it's just more relateable that way. Anyways, I thought I should pass on my thoughts, and tell you to keep up your amazing work!

This is grace, and love spun is soft magic and a wonderful use of texture and perception. I know it's her face that tells the story, but I keep drifting off to the moon.

It's kind of like going home.

How could I not look? I find most of your work over done - but the sketches, the pieces half done in the photos of your studio, and this ...

Tis lovely

SRaffa In reply to Dancing-Naked [2011-01-08 21:07:32 +0000 UTC]

That's extremely interesting to me-- you feel like I end up defeating any spontaneity in most of my stuff by over-refining it? Gimme details, please...

Dancing-Naked In reply to SRaffa [2011-01-08 21:09:52 +0000 UTC]

I'll go take another wander in your gallery, but for each comment you'll owe me a story - or something as equally shiny.

You don't have to burden yourself with an assignment like that on a Saturday-- I just want you to amplify your initial point so that I might benefit from it...

Dancing-Naked In reply to SRaffa [2011-01-08 21:30:52 +0000 UTC]

Mmm, I'm not sure that you'll benefit from it - but rambling I've a gone and comments I'm a leaving.

Plus I'm trying to keep you, tis not a burden. I just hope by the end you don't want to cause me /much/ bodily harm.

ahhhmigad, i love working with graphite. i love the fish eye and the background. how did you even get that hair? it's so intense.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SRaffa In reply to OneStory [2010-12-21 21:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! I drew the details of the hair with a hard lead-- a 9H lead-- leaving impressions in the paper, so that, when I went over all of it again with progressively softer leads, the impressions resisted the softer lead and showed up as texture and highlights...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OneStory In reply to SRaffa [2010-12-21 22:12:32 +0000 UTC]

i didn't even know they made 9h. i thought i was being hardcore using 3h! wow, that sounds so tedious. really hard work. but it was definitely worth it!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SRaffa In reply to OneStory [2010-12-21 22:24:09 +0000 UTC]

I really enjoy that a lot, actually-- it's not tedious at all, it's a very rhythmic and invigorating activity, perfect with the proper musical accompaniment!
