Collaboration
------------------------------------
By the time Bis had caught up to Dogen, he found his partner with Team Star Seekers. There were many teams gathered in the village, and Bis suspected that something was up. He only had to glance at Dogen to get his answers.
“We’re re-planting the damaged, desolate areas of Creeping Forest. There is a strange pokemon here, who says she can make it all grow.” Dogen gestured to a number of bags of seeds that sat at his feet. “We have procured these seeds from Fresnel. I believe they will grow into a variety of flowering shrubs. Do you mind helping Gabi, Will and Glacier planting them?”
What about you, Dogen? What are you doing? And -
Tikay needs my help Bis. I will be going elsewhere to explain a couple of fundamental techniques to her. We won’t go far. Can you do this for me, Bis? Please?
The meditite merely nodded in silence, lowering his odd-coloured eyes. He raised them when he felt one of Dogen’s paws on his shoulder, and attempted a smile, watching as the two riolus disappeared from view, Tikay talking animatedly about something, and Dogen serious and focussed. Bis bent to pick one of the small bags of seeds up, and straightened, turning to face the remaining members of Tikay’s team. Or rather, he came face to face with Gabi, while Glacier loomed above him, and Will disappeared, shouting a ‘see you guys later’ over his shoulder. Bis merely shook his head, and glanced up nervously at the golurk that stared down at him, gulping before handing a bag of seeds to Gabi. “I guess its just me and you planting then.”
“I guess it is,” Gabi said softly, frowning. She was irritated that Tikay had just gone off again, leaving all the work to her.
“We best get started then,” Bis murmured, moving off, casting wary glances at Glacier every now and again as he lumbered along behind the kirlia and the meditite.
---------------
Tikay broke the silence, clearing her throat.
“What... Exactly am I supposed to be looking at?” The two riolus were facing the uprooted end of a tree that had fallen some time ago. Dogen had brought her here as soon as he had spotted the dead tree. Tikay’s question was brushed aside - Dogen was one who tried to get others to find answers for themselves.
What do you see Tikay?”
Tikay was silent for several moments, her face a mask of concentration. She turned her head slightly, so that she could get a better view. After several more moments had passed, she spoke, telling Dogen what it was she could see.
“The roots... They’re all shrivelled and weak. Like they lacked their basic needs. Is that why the tree fell, Dogen? Because the roots started to die, and didn’t have the strength to hold it up any more?” She turned to face Dogen, who was on her left, surprised to see the smallest of smiles briefly touching his lips.
“Yes. This tree was still young when the storm came, Tikay, and its roots were closer to the surface than many of the mature trees. So when the cold came...” He trailed off, and his brown eyes settled on Tikay expectantly.
“So, when the cold came...” she repeated, “the roots got sick and lost their strength. And they couldn’t support the tree any more. Yeah, I get it, but...” She made a face, confused. “Why are you showing me this?”
He moved quickly, sweeping her legs from beneath her, and supporting her with his arms so that her landing was gentle. He looked down at her for several seconds, a brightness glimmered in his eyes momentarily, but the light disappeared when he moved, reaching out to offer her a hand to help her back to her feet.
“Now you try do that to me.”
And try she did. But each time she attempted to unbalance him, he crouched low and planted his feet firmly, his stance wide, strong, steady. He was unshaken, resolute. When Tikay realised that nothing she could do would send Dogen to the ground, she stopped, her mouth twisting in frustration.
“What’s wrong with me! Why can’t I do anything?!” Her paws clenched at her sides, and she narrowed her golden eyes and glared at the exposed roots of the dead tree. After several moments, her expression softened, and her eyes widened in understanding. “Roots...Deep roots... I need to be like a tree, right Dogen?” She glanced at him, catching a glimpse of that elusive, quickly fading smile again.
He nodded and moved towards the fallen tree, his paws gently running over the roots. He was silent for several minutes, standing there with his eyes closed, murmuring incoherently under his breath. After a while, he opened them again, and focussed on Tikay.
“You need deep roots if you don’t want to be touched by the frost. You need to be grounded or you’ll fall. It is important to always maintain your center of gravity, Tikay. It’s all very well having dreams, and losing yourself in the moment sometimes, but you need to be ready to stand firm at any given moment.” He made as if to turn away, but suddenly whirled around, going for her legs again.
This time, she lost her balance and stumbled backwards, but didn’t fall. She regained her footing and stared at Dogen, her eyes narrowing slightly as she crouched lower, spreading her feet. After a moment, she grinned brilliantly. A smile settled on Dogen’s lips, this time lasting longer than just a few seconds. It counted for something, even though it was a small smile, and nowhere near as bright and beautiful as Tikay’s.
“I’m impressed Tikay. You’re a fast learner”
“Oh, it’s nothing,” Tikay tilted her head. “Besides, I have a good teacher. Is this the right way to stand? Or do I need to get lower, bend my knees more? And tell me more about deep roots, Dogen. The strong, healthy ones, not the ones over there, that look like gross, dried tentacool legs.”
And because she’d asked, Dogen did (muttering something under his breath about the concept of roots being figurative, shaking his head and hiding the amusement in his eyes at her mention of tentacools. He managed to resist asking her how she knew what dried tentacool appendages looked like, because something told him the answer wouldn’t satisfy his curiosity). He spoke more about roots, and gravity, and being grounded. He pointed out the aspects of her stance that needed little adjustments. And they practiced standing firm, and so it was that Tikay learned to hold her ground and prevent herself from losing her footing easily. Each time she stumbled, each time she lost her balance for just a moment, her roots became stronger, deeper. There were times that she did fall again, but unlike the dead tree, she was able to rise each time she fell.
And when she finally managed to sweep Dogen’s feet from beneath him (though the glimmer in his eyes made her suspicious, made her think that he’d dropped his guard and let her knock him over), she was there, offering him a paw, pulling him back up to his feet again.
“I have one more question Dogen,” she said.
“Yes, what is it?”
“Do you think anyone was around when that tree fell down?” She seemed amused by the confusion in his eyes.
“I don’t think so, Tikay...” He shook his head, frowning in thought. “Why do you ask?” He squinted at her questioningly.
“Oh, I was just wondering what sound it would have made. I suppose we’ll never know, will we?”
She smiled, and flicked one of her legs out, catching Dogen by surprise and making him leap backwards, before she turned and raced off, laughter filling the air.
---------------
There were other roots that took to ground during this time too. The beginnings of a strong and solid friendship, that in time, would be able to weather any storm.

Yep me and sinis are still going to try and get this collab done and it's not so far out of our reach! I'm super excited to be getting this started!
The art for this Event are meant to represent a theme rather then illustrate directly what happens in the story~ This art is being done on a laptop rather then my pc so I'm not entirely sure how the color is coming out on this; might be to bright, dull, or dim idk~
I hope you enjoy both the writing and the art!

Lol, the little reference to the question: "What sound does a tree in a forest make when it falls down if no one's around?"
Good to see that Dogen doesn't seem to be as crazy as he sounded in the previous part. I need to see the other part now ^^

Just simply their faces can amuse. I think that you are a person about a significant sense of humour. ^u^ However I the most like when in the picture the Creature is in...an ecstasy.

Ahh, so exciting. I can't believe I've largely ignored FO til now, ahh.
Seriously love the art you've done for this part, and the rest I've seen looks great too. So looking forwards to the future.

Heh balancing all those teams you have is a lot of work I can imagine e_e I can under stand how it would be hard to get stuff done for them I can barely keep my three afloat but I think it's worth it really.
Haha honestly this is one will have been the most time consuming I mean there's like eight characters I had to do line art for so this one is the most complex. I'm really glad that you enjoy what I've done so far for our collab though! Thanks so much sinis
