Description
Meet AndrewsarchusAndrewsarchus was the largest carnivorous land mammal that ever walked on the face of the Earth. With a lenght of 15 feet and 6,5 feet tall at the shoulder (The head alone was nearly 3 feet long).
It lived in the late Eocene epoch (40 - 36 million years ago) in what is now the Gobi desert in Mongolia. Andrewsarchus belonged to an extinct group of mammals known as the Mesonychids, a group of carnivorous mammals that had hoofs instead of claws. Some of the early Mesonychids gave rise to the whales.
The one in the photo is a life-like and life-sized model of what we think the animal looked like when it was alive and it can be seen in museum Museon in The Hague

Something about the way this picture was shot, or maybe just the way the model looks, makes this look f-ing terrifying.

It's fake for the model.
This species hasn't been around for about 35 million years

No it isn't
The tail belongs to an Allosaurus skeleton standing behind the Andrewsarchus model.

Well technically, Andrewsarchus wasn't related to modern day canines, despite it looks. In fact it was more closely related to hoofed mammals such as sheep and goat
