Truth told I only really worry if I know one of my main colors is running dry but otherwise I've learned to work with my markers well enough to avoid that happening too much. Other than that I don't really sweat anything else. I just dive in and hope for the best while expecting and trying to anticipate the worst.

Pretty much. I mean, with as long as I've been doing this accidents don't happen too often through experience handling the materials alone unless I drop something or spill something, y'know? As for the overall look I do plan things out sometimes for these larger pieces by just making a small thumbnail sketch and using my tones to figure out placement of contrast and such. I've gone so far as to shrink down and print out multiple copies of the inked image on printer paper and just experimented there before hitting the final piece but that's a rare thing I do when I really want to plan out a new lighting style or tonal approach.
