Description
Popping up this quick colored sketch of Hellboy. Caught the movie yesterday and it was better than I expected. I love all the little stuff-the character beats del Toro puts in his work that really grounds the flick for me no matter how fantastic the subject matter.Practical effects were amazing as usual but I saw a drop in quality in Hellboy and Abe's make-up and prosthetics. Mr. Krauss was a nice addition and the young Hellboy in the opening freaked me out at first but I got used to it as the film progressed. I would've liked to have seen Powell's Mutant Dog story used to intro young Hellboy and maybe Mignola's Pamcakes bit as well. Maybe in the third depending on how this one does financially in the end.
This was sketched up real loose hence the crappy anatomy and misproportions. To some degree though I think it gives it some character that a more finished piece would lack. Inked with a brushpen, colored with Prismas and slapped on DA in-between sketchcards and other junk.

That's quite a tangent there!
The pose is enough to have the full character recognizable, posing for the camera, yet with a little depth to entice the senses.
I would've liked to have seen the second values chosen to have been darker...to add more contrast to its counterpart value and compliment the nice contrast in ink work.
The shadow layouts with the inks as well as the marker colors are nicely done.

Been catching up on all the Hellboy mythos lately (thanx to Utorrent!) and I agree about the Pamcakes bit, that would have been cool!
Great depiction, and the whole Right Hand of Doom stuff is awesome!
And we definitely have to see a Lobster Johnson! FEEL THE LOBSTER'S CLAW!!!
I asked Alex to do a pinup of Lobster and pops Valiente fighting Nazi Lizard men, I wonder how that goes?!

Actually I drew this with an F lead not an HB.
I'm kidding of course, thanks!

For a rough sketch I think you did pretty well with it--you manage to straddle a fine line between Hellboy's regular style and adapting it to your own style as well. Excellent work, man! Very well done!

Looks pretty cool if you ask me. I'm usually not a fan of characters that aren't aesthetically appealing to me, but you've done a good job on the character for sure. The face is really expressive.

It's hard to keep a character recognizable as being itself and still translate it into your given style. I love that challenge though and sometimes it's hit or miss. Not my fave pic of Hellboy I've done but not bad for a quickie.

Sorry 'bout that! Hmmm, to make up for it I may have to draw up 'ol Johnson now.
