Description
This ia a very rough diagram of how I make a plushie body for a four legged animal. I was trying to explain it and realised I needed pictures. Obviously this is an approximation and if I was making an actual plushie I would make sure the pieces were all of corresponding sizes and shapes.THIS IS NOT A USABLE PATTERN, IT IS A GUIDE!
All the patterns are labelled, but should be fairly clear. The arrows show the direction the fur pile should run in if you stroke it. The seams are colour coded to show where they would join where it might be a bit confusing.
This is the basic concept I always work off of. Changing the size and proportions will give different body shapes overall. Gussets in the body can be used to give a slimmer creature with a more defined chest.
The belly piece is key to the overall finish of the plushie, even though it looks fairly insignificant. My most common error is leaving it too narrow and making the legs too close together.
Head not included because they vary a lot plush to plush. I would do more detailed feets and tail usually too, these are just to demonstrate where they go.
If this is useful let me know. I've been considering putting together a plushie tutorial.

Are those darts in the front and hind legs? I've been making plushies from patterns that don't use that design feature - I'm assuming it adds more shape to the leg?
Really helpful diagram by the way! I've been trying to create my own and this is very useful. Thank you for sharing it
