Description
Puppet based on Osamu Tezuka's "Phoenix". I based her more on the 2004 anime version, although I also drew from the original manga. She can be made to light up, which definitely came from the anime and definitely doesn't photograph well! I'll have to get better pictures at some point, but I've waited since October for these already.I finished Phoenix for London Expo in October and did have her in the Sunday masquerade. There's nothing like taking a puppet to a costume contest! I think she went down fairly well so I'll be making more anime puppets.
Phoenix is a fairly simple puppet, I only have two rods on her, one to support her body and one to move her neck. She is also rather big and heavy so she isn't the easiest to manouver. However, her source material is awesome so I like her anyway.
Mostly made out of foam, wire, feathers, felt and fake fur. I couldn't get a nice yellow fur in the UK so I had to paint cream fur instead. Yay! She took two days to dry out!

I don't have any photos of her lit up I'm afraid. There is video of me with her at October London Expo Masquerade on youtube. It's not the best since the stage is fairly well lit and I was terrified and moving too fast, but it's something! Video is here - [link]

I was so pleased that I remembered to slow down at Minami's masquerade! It is very easy to forget once you get out there. At least it does seem to get easier.
I'm not certain that I will be going to London Expo in May, but there's a good chance. I live near London, so I don't have to plan too far ahead for that one! I'll probably decide which puppet to bring closer to the time if I go, although it wouldn't be Phoenix since she is so big and heavy.

OMG! The Phoenix! I love Tezuka! This is just so amazing! The details on it are perfect! Plus I love the fact that it lights up! You did an awesome job!
