I agree, sadly, the game was massively underrated and so obscure but truly a gem.

I played it in Japanese when it first came out because I assumed that it wouldn't be coming to the US. I'm thankful that it did, but I'm sad that it's become so obscure and underrated. I think the main problem was that the gameplay was pretty clunky and boring. The story, atmosphere, and characters were good and were what drew me in. They can't really make up for the battle system to most people in the US however.

Bingo. I think the game was described more as an "experience" rather than a "game", rightly so IMO. Given how many gamers are drawn more to action (who would not want to deal with the minimalistic gameplay and battles despite story), I suppose it is not much of a surprise that it wasn't as well-received. I never investigated it, but were there any changes to the English version of the game?

As far as I can tell there were no real changes other than text translation and adding Dreams to the title. They left the Japanese voice track in tact and that's all I cared about. I mean Johnny Yong Bosch is ok for an English speaking VA, but his Renton voice for Seto can be a little hard to take seriously at times.

I want to play this game, but I will (probably) never have a Wii. I've had to settle for watching Let's Plays on the Internet.

I hope you get a chance somehow to play the game someday. Even though it puts players on an emotional rollercoaster, it's worth it. There is a manga that takes place after the game too.

this was such a sorrowful game, especially when he and PF had died. It hurts, even though he's just an advanced robot.
You captured the picture, setting and cosplay perfectly. This is marvelous

Another aspect of the game that added to the sadness was all the momentos with attached stories like the 7 bells stories, agh!!
