Alex doesn't alwyas wear overalls... Just usually :3 
most of hers are either hand me down from siblings or cousins, or else from thrift shops. Though I think they have a tradion passed down from their moms side, that for the first day of school each year all the kids get a brand new pair of overalls

Alex's family, again mostly from jeans side, are pretty thrifty and don't like to waste anything, so things are sewed and patched up until they are just rags... And then used as rags :3

Ok, so here's the deal:
Alex's mom was born and lived until 18 in Tennessee, and has a moderately strong southern accent

Alex's dad is from either the Midwest or newengland gland, and has no such accent 

Alex, Nathan and Connor have a mix of southern accent in them, but it's not very strong, they've picked up some mannerisms and expressions and ways of speaking from their mom (and their relatives down in TN) but they don't really have a southern drawl

as such... I'm not really sure how to explain Alex's accent... I'm not sure if I know exactly what it sounds like myself

I think since you've placed the (last name here)'s in Minnesota, Alex's dad should be from there, so that Alex picks up the mannerisms and that pic you did becomes supported.

Yah, I'd say he wears his shoes 1/3 of the time (not counting school and such) and Alex does more like 2/3
