Wild Do you draw using a pencil then fill the shapes with colours, or do you do it straight with markers?
I had not taken a look at this one yet, I love the colours and the way you've integrated your signature in it, very clever ^^
Well done!

i HOPE YOU DIDN'T GET THIS ALREADY. sOIMETHING HAPPENED AND i LOST THE MESSAGE.
Caps unintentional
Dianaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Pencils? Markers? Nooo
All my work/paintings/are done with oil based paint pens 0n canvas. A couple on high quality paper mounted on foam core.. Most are given at least 10 to 20 coats. Average piece is 18x24 inches.
They look so awesome after about six months. All that oil and color sinks into the canvas over all that time and it's so rich--such depth.
I start a work and go. No references (how could I have? lol) No pencil/line work. I have to be real careful many times because one little change can change so much. It's all so intertwined, and many times connected to 4 views, so it can be a tricky business to try and alter it, especially at the 3/4 done part.
Bird Man Bash is a (2P I call it) a mirror of Bird man. He's (the original oil) is hanging up in ACMoore. A big Arts and Crafts chain in the North East here in the US
The 30x40 inch print of him in an impressive frame is hanging up in my living room up side down at the moment. Next year I'll turn him the way you saw it. lol
Thank you so much for the comment

I had read "paint markers" so I have been misleading ^^ Ok then, I thought that you were doing preliminary sketches for such complicated paintings!
I love oils too, this is a wonderful medium!
Thanks for the answer ^^

I have used paint markers here and there, but paint pens are oil paints. I believe they are alittle thinner then regular oils from a tube, otherwise the same.
I have done some of my paintings from my pen work. Decided to paint them. So, of course some are done as regular pen/ink, then I decide to paint them.
Other paintings are started with paint pens, and they are created at the time
So you werent totally off the mark

very, and frustrating. Thy're frustrating enough with paint pens. btw, those pens have a little metal ball in them for mixing the paint. Something like paint sray cans, varnish, etc. You hear them clanking around when you shake them.

It really sound great! I've tried acrylics paint pens some time ago, I didn't know there were the same with oils

oh yes, they are all oil based, the ones I use. Can you imagine doing a piece like "A Step Beyond" with brushes? I think I'd shoot myself
btw. I had that original dfone on canvas (a giclee) Dianae, it is awesome. The texture, color, saturation, etc. It looks terrific. The photo here of it was scanned in a large format scanner--then pigmented ink was used to produce the giclee. You couldn't tell the difference from the original and the giclee I had done of it.
Hmmm I wonder how one of your comp pieces would look? Like a real painting? I don't know.
But mit would be wild. Then you could always go with the top of the line paper for prints, and even use vinyle with solvent based inks. Would bring out the rich colors of some of your pieces--is UV protected and you can wipe it down with a wet cloth without any fear of damags. You could only use this process with a gloss finished print.
What have you been doing for prints of your work?

yes---he is. None of my creatures or characters are mean---some look it---but the're all pretty nice characters---well---not the machine going down in hell express---that's a mechanical beast that has some living qualities too ---that's the way I see anyway.
Did you ever see the original 1 piece---I always really liked it---great rotations on the original stand alone. View from any angle---right flip---upside down---to the left---all real cool. I believe you've seen it---it seems you've seen everything in my gallery lol.

When you put them together like this, they create a
unity that's very evident, almost as if they were
created for just this purpose.
I love the way they also join together to form what
to me looks like some sort of tribal mask. It brings
to mind those mythological animal gods and totems.

Stepbeyond In reply to jarasing [2006-09-11 02:50:05 +0000 UTC]
I agree---this looks like it was designed for this---it wasn't.
There's the tribal comment again ---I "mythological animal gods and totems" hear that all the time.
I happen to really like the man with the big orange mustache lol

oh yes---does it ever. I just love that character with the big mustache---there's (once again) so much stuff. I must have a very crowded brain or somethin----and....thank you for all the nice words on this set. I have one more---the full paneled one.
I will have these printed a few ways. Original stand alone-(it's so vibrant and rich in person) probably a 4 panel---and 16.

your pictures are so intriguing, this one is so colourful and uplifting, and with all the birds, it seems kind of folkloric if that makes sense (or is even a word!)

thank you very much for the nice comments---and the birds lol They are all over the place in alot of my art---can't seem to get away from them----but yes---this one has a few very cool birds---5 or six can be seen pretty easily if serched for---that includes turning it upside down. Did you see the bird eating from a hand?
I happen to really like the whole set of these---the original--the stand alone 12x18---then the bash---I love that face with the big mustache lol I'm posting one more of it in the 16 panel view.

thank you. Have to admit this is another artist I've been likened to that I don't know. lol Yours make it 3 now over the past year.
Never studied other artists ---it wasn't my field---but now I will check him out. You know what worries me though? I don't want to get too influenced by anothers work---that may sound odd---but my art has been influenced by my own set of angles, tilework, imagination, and what I've been exposed to in my life---but not art--maybe alittle---but not much.
Thanks again
