Of all in your right now I like this one the most.
I perfer your bright colors them most. They are hypnotic and busy yet calming.
I also see many eyes in this one.

thank you very much. Did you see my entire gallery? Just wondering since you picked this one out of all of them including the pen and inks, etc. I believe it's 3 or 4 pages here on DA

Yes I looked through your gallery. I do that from time to time. I go look around a the check out the gallery to see a person's style. Sometimes I find I like womething in the gallery more than what attracted me to it in the first place. I also find I can learn how to improve my skills by checking out other's works.

I'm not sure I'mfollowing you. How many? In what way---time wise? Or---compared to the pen and ink medium I do?

How long does it take you to do a piece like this?

Stepbeyond In reply to 3Star [2006-06-24 04:25:12 +0000 UTC]
hmmm---that's tricky because I did 2 of them---the male and female---but they were only 9X12 sheets--hmmm---or less---8X10. I think I spent 30 to 40 hrs between the 2 of them.
Fish Love Dogdown on a 18"X24" canvas took 80+hrs---I know rediculous---but again---I had to. Pending (the nightmare woman) on 18"x24" canvas took---u ready---over 100hrs--sick lol. Likewise Flight Heavy (18X24 canvas) took about a 100hrs---that was a hard piece.
The normal pen and inks (from 8X10 to 11X17)take between 20 and 40 hrs.
Loney Face (colored & pen/Ink18X24 paper) took about 40/50---I really don't remember---but it was time consuming.
Was that more then you needed to know?

Gosh, that's allot of dedication and maticulous detail!
But well worth it!!! I know the detail can drive you crazy, especially after staring at a piece for too long!
I've learnt that patience is the key, instead of rushing to finish a piece!
Thanks for sharing....

smart woman---ur so right. You said "I've learnt that patience is the key, instead of rushing to finish a piece!"
Yes---"tomorrows another day" is one of my almost daily comments. Was the same in tile work. It's done when it's done.
I just finished a piece that I could've posted a week ago---but I had to do a little of this---some of that---you know the deal. It probably clocked in completely from 80 to 100hrs. Looking at it becomes too intense---I understand what it's like to look at a piece for so long---however, I have more things to keep track of then is the norm. Rotations if used---now connecting when used----interlocking images---it all has to work---so anyway lol I know where you're coming from.

3Star In reply to Stepbeyond [2006-07-03 14:50:37 +0000 UTC]
lol Yup, I completely understand.
I've also found that looking at your piece in a mirror, to see if both sides of a piece is assimetrical - helps you maintain objectivity. Depending what your working on ofcourse, specifically faces, etc.

the focal point for me on this one is dead center and it's hard as hell to focus on anything else. it's like a vortex.

Stepbeyond In reply to Webb97 [2006-06-20 04:20:44 +0000 UTC]
that makes alot of sense. The center does pull you. This is a pretty nice size canvas--I plan on paint enhancing certain areas. Turned sideways you can see a totum pole----bird with outstretched wings. I'm thinking of bring that out more---but i have to study the piece alittle more so as not to throw anything out of balance. Thx for the comment

Woah .... I got a tad dizzy staring at this for too long. It reminds me a little of those - I can't remember the name of them- but they are those things you look into .. Kaledeiscope (sp?). Anyway, when you look through one of those things, you see a myriad of images.
The eyes are very dominant in this piece. It's what struck me first about it - that and I sort of freaked out seeing all those eyes!! And again the birds, the colours, faces and I see a few possums in there as well
It certainly does portray identity crisis - sort of like a mirror reflecting upon itself and multiplying itself. There's a very big sense of confusion in this piece, confusion and the eyes do make me think of personalities/aspects/feelings/emotions of a particular person. However, all the lines and colours are interconnected and woven together as though as an individual aspect, they lack the sense of purpose, the wholeness - but when they form the one complete image, all the aspects fall into place and have their own 'jobs' and are thus able to work in conjunction with each other. Sort of like ..
There's no sadness without happiness, there's no love without hate, there's no security without insecurity. You get my drift.
Very interesting piece of work!

did you ever think about becoming an art critic? lol You have to be one of the most in debt commenters (on the meaning) of a piece---I do so enjoy reading your take on them, and don't take them for granted---I really appreciate it.
Your comments were pretty right on. Yes--there are possums. The opposite emotions are there too. The orignal---or 1 section of this (original copy) clearly shows why I named it Identity Crisis. You have good eyes. I'm happy if people see at least 50% of what's going on in anything I post (time and net viewing restraints)---you are obviously seeing more---I'm glad you're enjoying them like that. I'm flattered

thx --and I know what you mean, but this is very recent because my art lends itself to this so well--I've been drawing off the page for years. The regular versions are all stand alone drawings/paintings.

Well, I say if it fulfills you, then thats most important. Not if it suits some critics term of a catagory. As long as it comes from your soul, then i'm happy to view the work.
