Description I'm holding "Steve" my 5 foot Iguana by the stove to keep him warm. After Sandy we had no power for 2 weeks.

yes, it was rough. Then we got smacked with 20 inches of snow a couple weeks ago.

Thank you. My daughter says he's creepy hahah. He sometimes follows her, it's so cute. He really has something for her. Whatever lizards have for their human owners. When my daughter has her friends over he stares at one. She loves him too. It's something to see.

Hi Mikha It's been a while. I haven't been on here much. Doing my music now instead of painting. It's funny that you should say that. When I talk to him I say "you're the King of Iguana's, you're the best Iguana in the whole world

I haven't been doing much art either, been busy! But I have some ideas.

Hope you've been doing well

Well, I don't know. Good days and bad. Now you have to get those ideas down on paper. I never started a work knowing where the heck it was going. They all created themselves in a way.

Steve is amazing!

Stepbeyond In reply to erene [2013-02-16 19:35:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Steve (my son named him) is quite amazing in more ways then one. It's so cute when he just roams around the den, then goes back up to his toweled platform where he spends most of his time. He's paper trained. He comes off his platform and walks upstairs to his place when he has to go. A friend of ours saw this and her mouth dropped.

That is so amazing dear. My son loves all lizards, he
had me visiting all lizard farms in South Africa and would
love to own one some day. Right now, I just want him to
concentrate on his studies and then we shall see.

Stepbeyond In reply to erene [2013-02-27 02:46:20 +0000 UTC]

yes, your right. Iguana's are a responsibility and work. Steve was originally bought for my son who hasn't done one thing to raise him, so he became my lizard.

lol He does, doesn't he. In reality he's the sweetest Iguana you'd ever meet. I hug and pet him like a dog. He thrives on affection. I cup his head in my hands, he loves that.

Fractalvision In reply to Stepbeyond [2013-02-16 20:09:13 +0000 UTC]

Haha that is so cool. I wouldn't expect iguanas to be affectionate.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to Fractalvision [2013-02-16 20:27:25 +0000 UTC]

not all are, but he was raised from a little 13 week old. He's been so exposed to affection, people. He gets treated better (sadly) then some children. It's so cute. When my daughter (13) has her friends over he'll stare at one particular girl. I swear he has a crush on her, and she loves him. She heard me repeat a comment from DA about him being cute. She said "tell her to lay off, he's mine" as she was petting him" The Lizard obviously feels that affection the way he stares at her over the other girls here. It's adorable.

Haha that is so cute! I think if I could have any exotic pet, it would be a Capybara.

Stepbeyond In reply to Fractalvision [2013-02-27 02:51:04 +0000 UTC]

what in the world is a Capybara?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fractalvision In reply to Stepbeyond [2013-02-27 08:20:20 +0000 UTC]

The largest rodent in the world. You can keep them as a pet, they just need like a swimming pool full of water to go to the bathroom in cause they have to be in water to go. [link]

Stepbeyond In reply to Fractalvision [2013-02-28 03:05:20 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for that info. I guess the water thing is a real problem. They can't go without the water?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fractalvision In reply to Stepbeyond [2013-02-28 07:54:12 +0000 UTC]

Nope, they have to go in the water.

Stepbeyond In reply to Fractalvision [2013-02-28 20:48:29 +0000 UTC]

too bad. Talk about an awesome pet. Are they friendly? We owned a teddy bear hamster that was funny. When he would get away from us sooner or later he'd show up Right in front of us.

Fractalvision In reply to Stepbeyond [2013-03-01 22:23:31 +0000 UTC]

From what I saw on tv they act like a cross between a cat and a dog. Probably if you raised them from when they were very young. Haha my friend is about to get a hamster. They are so cute.

Stepbeyond In reply to Fractalvision [2013-03-05 03:42:50 +0000 UTC]

ic. Yes, they are cute. The problem is there short life span. I believe it's between 2 & 3 years I think.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to PurpleTartan [2013-02-16 19:56:17 +0000 UTC]

He's not hard to look after. He basically stays in one place most of the time. He's probably like raising a dog, but in a different way. He is paper trained. You need a good heat source, and a place from him. Steve hasn't been caged for quite some time. Right now the silly thing is laying on the cold tile floor in the bathroom

PurpleTartan In reply to Stepbeyond [2013-02-28 02:20:27 +0000 UTC]

I would love to have one as a pet, they look so cool, like mini dinosaurs. Though I think maybe it's too cold where I am for one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to PurpleTartan [2013-02-28 02:51:22 +0000 UTC]

where I am is too cold too. You use heating sources for them. You must read a good book about them before owning one.
GREEN IGUANA The Ultimate Owner's manual by James W. Hatfield 111. Even picking one is important. Mine had a very good temperament from the beginning. Not all do.

He's so beautiful! I've always kind of wanted an iguana, are they hard to take care of?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to Liquid-Mushroom [2013-02-15 21:51:44 +0000 UTC]

yes they are. They have to be properly heated. Eat all greens that are expensive. Need a large area if you want to have him in a cage. Steve just hangs out on top of a cage he outgrew years ago. They make like a small dog. Read up on them before you buy one. There's a book I have "Green Iguana" The Ultimate Owners Manual by James W. Hatfield III. Us Iguana owners are called "Iguana Families"
Steve is paper trained and free to walk where he wants, but he doesn't do much. lol
