And this was the last thing I saw as they punted me out of heaven. They've got these super stingy rules about fraternizing with human women. Lame.In the sketch phase, me and Jeremy (Magic AD,) were experimenting with the idea of a "covenant" motif for this. If you check out the sketches ([link] ), you'll see that she almost got a face-tattoo of Magic's version of the Ten Commandments. (Which I imagine are way more fun than the real Ten.)

I cannot WAIT for this card!! I particularly like the barring on her wings and the continuation of the ribbon theme from some of your other angels. Beautiful work-- every new piece brings a new, pleasing element into play for your already impressive portfolio. She is beyond gorgeous, and many Magic players (myself included) will certainly enjoy and appreciate playing with such a pretty card!

The background is great (I love the clouds, they fit perfectly) and the wings are very detailed, amazing work!

those wings... blow me... away... *tumbles off in a gust of wind from the angel's wings*
But yeah... the detail on them is mind-numbing. The markings remind me of a bird of prey, like a hawk or falcon. So much more interesting than your standard white wings. And that tail-dress type thing, reminds me of a phoenix tail. Sort of. I think in some ways I'd like to piss her off even LESS than some of the other badass women in your gallery.

Aside from the darker than usual lipstick color for a white angel this art is just magnificent (and then, I have a big weakness with angels coz I collect them anyway). The clouds are also jaw-droppingly good.
It's just the lipstick... it reminds me of Heavy Metal stuff.

Do you use references when you paint wings? or backgrounds for that matter?

Absolutely. I have a book on birds of prey that I'm amazed is still in one piece. I try to make the anatomy believable by extrapolating the anatomy of some of the larger birds into a human frame. I find a balance between what's realistic, and what is aesthetic in terms of proportions, number of feathers, and stuff like that.

Love the detail you put into the feathers and the sense of movement that can be felt by the way the hair and ... skirt? Over all it has a feeling of power.

Out of curiosity, how does one get into illustrating for Wizards? I've been aspiring to do just that, but wasn't sure how to start. If you have any advice or suggestions, I'd love to know! Any help is appreciated.

Basically, you get the art director your portfolio. The big gaming conventions will usually have portfolio reviews by the Wizards art directors, so that's a great place to start. There's a lot to be said for getting to know the ADs in person. If they think you're ready for prime-time, they'll throw something your way.

Artists shall henceforth not fraternize with their own creations, nor abuse this artistic skills by making them look more sexy than they should (Steve = Guilty)
Commandment 2.
Thou shalt not allow angels with doodles into the land of Magic. (Steve = Guilty for trying).
Commandment 3.
Thou shalt not sneak darth vaders mask into their avatar and think no one will notice (Steve=Guilty).
Sorry buddy, but break the first three and you're already doomed for hell!

Wow, another great piece. I think if you would have put the tattoos in the finished product it may have been a bit too busy. I'd save the tattoo-commandments for another piece though. I love the potential visual for that.
