Some of you may notice that this is not entirely the version you've seen on Magic cards.While stand-alone, the banners help the composition and depth of the piece, we felt that on the card it would be a little confusing. And the depth-of-field style blurring I used toward the bottom of the piece detracts from a traditional paint feel, which is what most fantasy publishers want.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the promo cards by coming in the top 8 at the zendikar game day...the card is going for like $25.00 now...and everyday comes up to me offering me crazy trades for it and i alwas turn them down because i love the art so much..way better then the original and it looks so pretty foil

I love it, I'm actually a fan of your work but one thing though, seeing as the ribbons are like closer to the eye level should that be clear and the farther ones be blurred? Idk, just wondering.

The banners definitely help give the feel of distance, like she's flying well above the viewer's head. The M:tG card doesn't have any of them?

Nope. The MtG card just has the cloudy background. But since most of the bottom half is covered by the card text, it works better without the banners.

The card is of the same name, "Emeria Angel." It's a promo card.

yeah, I agree about the blur. any photographic element like a strong depth of field would be out of place in the style of the cards. i love the extra flowy parts of the dress. the floating lace doesn't make any sense to me, but they do have a lovely pattern.
more specifically, is she cutting through the lace? does she explode lace confetti? is there are large fan below blowing the lace upwards? it's a decently cool artistic element, but my overactive imagination rebels...in case you were interested in my completely unsolicited opinion.

Darn it, I wish I had gotten a copy or two of this version.
I love what they did with Zendikar's angels, and even more so with what you did with them.
The art you didn't do is nice and all (there's just something slightly unsettling about an angel in a thong).
That depth of field technique is amazing.
