Description
How many marvels are lost to us simply because they lie sleeping under the salty veil of the ocean depths? Forgotten civilizations, fantastical undiscovered species, lightly napping eldritch horrors? A simple submarine trek could reveal worlds of ancient art and cultures. A delightful prelude, quickly sundered by the nightmare of awakening elder gods with that clunky sub. Leviathans will rise. Reality will sunder, cities will crash to smouldering rubble, and madness will strangle the minds of the unlucky survivors. The slaves who serve these new masters will ask why we foolhardily embraced curiosity, and "discovery" will be the most savage curse word. Mankind will live out the rest of eternity in misery and terror, and we will be to blame for prodding the icy depths we do not understand.
Or maybe we'd find super cool mermaid cities or something! Maybe they have awesome sushi restaurants and their own Cirque Du Soliel shows! The tourism industry would boom, and a bright future of sharing culture and technology would bring us into a new age of enlightenment!
But definitely only one of those two things.
Worth the risk. Let's build some more submarines already!

It’d be an awesome thing to discover merpeople the further we accomplish diving down deeper. On the Art itself, it’s amazing. I can just picture her fighting the crab for that piece in its claws.

Of course under-sea could be rather like the land; where we're all divided up by race, culture, and religion and so on. Maybe we find friendly mermaids and mermen who need help fighting big nasties?

Besides he will only wake when the star are right. So whatever noise you make he will just hit the snooze button (Squash you flat) and then turn around for some more dreaming.

Well, well. I have been on the Internet for quite a few decades and have skimmed trough a lot of sites and pictures. But this I count among the most beautiful works I have seen in all of this time.
I can hardly decide were to start.
Maybe the beautifull face that mixes into one expression childlike curiosity and ancient wisdom.
I admit this did strike me first.
Secondly the color and the eye for detail. From the little crab and the corals to the shipwreck in the background.
I like the coloring in this one, suggesting a depth between "enough light to see" and " Too dark for human eyes".
One oft he last things for me to notice were the gills.
Usually people position those along the throat so as to filter oxygen to fill the lungs. Not only for the purpose of size this would not work, but also for the amount of oxygen in water.
Not only ist the size of her/ his ? gills plausible, but also the position that gives me the idea you simply left out the lungs and moved to a more realisitc gills-only breathing.
I even can imagine a little conversation.
Crab: "Look Seeker what I found down here"
Seeker: "Oh I know what this is, Most peculiar it should be found in such a place. Why thank you master crab."
