One time in the Hellfire scenario, I was playing as Jim when I've defeated the boss battle. I checked my map to see where David at and it turned it he didn't survive! 
No wonder why he's very hard to survive as a AI partner....

In End of the road he usually turns into a zombie unless someone plays as him I noticed in the Outbreak games that certain types of characters are better geared to play as than they are to have as AI type partners eespecially in File 2 where it lets you select your team mates
