Description
Draw Off 4: Superman re-design... This piece has "after Swan" under my name. For those of you who may not've seen much of Superman prior to 1985, Curt Swan was THE ARTIST on the character. Normally, when I draw Supes, I think back to the John Byrne era that began right after Curt left the titles - drawing the Alan Moore scripted Whatever Happened to the Man of Tommorrow? story. This drawing was based on a Curt Swan sketch. I thought, since the character was so classic and Curt's take on Supes is so timeless, I thought it would be a good contrast to the modern take I was going for in the design.
Anyway, let me know what you all think.
Draw Off is between myself and [link] - but it's open to anyone. If anyone wants to take part, message me or CW and let us know - that way we can let you all know the next assignment...

This would be a really good costume for a semi-retired Superman.

Hey, you got yours up before me this week. Nice change of pace.
This is quite different without being unrecognizable. I would say that this is more Elseworlds rather than future. I can't decide if I like it or not. It's such an extreme departure with the dark colors.
No, I do like it. I notced that we both tossed the underwear look. I 'almost' went with the Ross S but decided to keep it classic... well kinda. The original was so tiny.
Good job, sir. I dig.

Thank you. I guess I'm more drawn to the darker characters, which is why I'm always drawing Bats...

The grey is supposed to be more of a black - but I didn't want to lose any of the details in the figure...

fair enough...I notice a Ross superman symbol as well...nice, but my personal favorite is the classic S seen in this Cooke piece: [link]

Yeah, it's a variation of the Ross symbol. Also a little bit of the Superman vibe from a recent episode of Legion of Superheroes, (featuring Superman and a clone of Supes with different powers...).

episode? is there a legion of superheros cartoon, or did you mean an issue of the comics?

Cartoon. Just started it's second season. It was called Young Superman and the Legion of Superheroes for a while because of the whole Superboy copy-right issue. They later dropped the whole Superman - young or whatever - from the title. It's on the Kid's WB here. I don't know what channels you have where you are... They usually have it right around when they air The Batman.
