I found the inspiration for this work in a deserted plaza in a small, hilltop town in northern Spain (Laguardia). There were two knobby trees with fused branches, grown together, as if they were holding hands. Two separate living things that share a vital common bond: It seemed, to me, the perfect metaphor for a marriage.

This sculpture depicts two trees with a connected root, symbolizing the early bond between a couple. This connection is fulfilled by the branches grown together, forming a common space between the trees, where the bride and groom sit and swing (the swing actually moves). Each tree has its own unique flowers, and there is a central flower, the largest of them, that has petals from each, conveying the strength and vibrance of the relationship.
