Description Wallpaper #151! It's the year 2156, and the Enterprise is the first of the NX-class starships to be refitted. This new design would become standard in the future, eventually leading to the well-known USS Enterprise (NCC-1701).

Loved the series 'Star Trek: Entreprise'.Β  Had to beginΒ somewhere, but the loyal trekkies didn't care for it because it didn't follow the set formula.Β  Was hoping it would have gone on for another season or two.Β  Still, you did a great job with this piece.Β  However, I don't think they would have gone with secondary hull until the third reconstruction.

I didn't care about whether it followed a formula or not.. I just never found the characters terribly interesting, and the writing very hit and miss. But then I also didn't care for most of Voyager, and the first 3 seasons of DS9.Β  Verdict is still out on Discovery.Β

If the writing was hit-and-miss, it could have been due to trying to establish the premise of Earth Starfleet getting away from the Vulcan's tight control and set out on their own.Β  And true, the characters didn't have that flash as the original crew.Β  But Shatner was a Shakespearean actor from Canada, Nimoy was a small-parts actor before hitting it big on Star Trek.Β  And Kelley had some film time under his belt, but always second fiddle to other stars.

I'm not arguing the "cause" of it.. just the effect.Β  There may well be reasons for the characters to lack "flash".. but at the end of the day, what matters isn't WHY, but simply that they did.Β Β

Well, Scott Bakula just finished "Quantum Leap", but everybody else were new to me.Β  And I think the producers were hoping for some to develop along the way.Β  The only thing I had noticed was an easy going relationship between the captain and the engineer.Β  The Vulcan science officer just didn't fit the scheme.

Yeah...T'pul or however you spelled her name, was them trying to combine Spock and 7 of 9 into one character after they discovered during Voyager that boobs could smooth over a number of fanboi complaints, lol!Β  (And because Spock, is the most popular character of the whole franchise, so who wouldn't want a Spock Lite, with Boobz?)

I could go with that.Β  Remember seeing Nimoy for the first time in that Republic Films' serial, "Zombies From the Stratosphere".Β  Then he had a brief walk-on spot in the sci-fi "Them".Β  And played the reporter in the Twilight Zone episode of the robot, Adam Link, accused of murdering his creator.

Thank you! I agree. It's the first series I've watched, and I really liked it. I wish it continued. As for the secondary hull: I've read that, if ENT would have gotten a fifth season, it would already have received a refit like this one.

In the book on the making of the TV series, it was suppose to have had a landing capability that was sometimes used.Β  But they scrapped that for the all-important transporter.Β  And it was designed to separate in the event of an emergency.Β

Interesting! I didn't know about that. As for separating, do you mean the "original NX-01" as shown in the series, or this one?

The original Enterprise from the first and later TV series.Β  In the event that something went wrong with the WARP engines, then they would be able to pile everybody onto the primary saucer hull and jettison the lower section.Β  Then the main hull would get by on impulse power and send out a 'Mayday' to anybody in the area.Β  As long as it wasn't Romulan or Klingon.Β

Ah, cool. I didn't know that. Seems like they introduced that concept after all with the 1701-D.

It was used in the one Star Trek movie where the saucer section crash landed on the planet.
