Description A new animated short I've been working on. It has sound! Also has a moral, which the Blitz Panther here demonstrates.

You do realize that Zoids is an Anime, yes? One basic rule of anime is that the TRUE laws of physics do not exist. Otherwise, most zoids would be too heavy to move, most large scale flying zoids couldn't fly, and CPC's would destroy the zoid. Remember that this is fiction and enjoy it.

This film is fantastic! I will add at this point, that using a charged particle cannon requires the zoid to have some sort of stabilizers from behind placed into the ground to stop the force blowing him back (see Geno Saurer for ref), as per Newtons 3rd Law of Action Reaction.

Thanks! The way I see it though is the the panther doesn't need stabilizers because he's already on four legs. Think of it like this: I could push you over easily if you just stood there and let me. but if you got on all fours, it would become very difficult for me to push you down.

You misunderstand what I mean, it's not a balance issue. A Zoid with a Charged Particle Cannon needs stabilizers. It's part of Newton's 3rd Law in Physics; Action Re-Action. See the amount of force it takes for that laser to bust down that wall? The beam probably has more force seeing as it broke down the wall with ease. Well that Physics law tells us that the exact same amount of force in the beam is also acting on the Zoid as well, pushing it in the opposite direction. So he's basically having the force of that same beam he's shooting pushing him backwards. Compare it to gun recoil. So yeah, he needs stabilizers to counter-act this force, not just a balance thing

Hi, He's already got a recoil mechanism in the throat. The stabilisers depicted on the Genosaurs etc would never counter-act that force - they're too small. They're also too smooth - they have no gripping surfaces on them. They couldn't possibly root the Genos in place, they're there to stop toppling. Even if the stabilisers somehow did provide the necessary contact with the floor to stop the Geno from toppling, compared with the panther and his four big feet and his lower centre of gravity the panther is far more stable.
To put it in terms of Newton's third law, it's the friction between the Zoid and the floor that reacts with the force of the CPC. That's what stops the Zoid flying backwards. That is the colinear reaction to force of the blast, that we can assume is parallel to the ground. The stabilisers (and the inherent strength of the Zoid) are just there to stop the Zoid from tumbling over backwards; to keep the Geno firing striaght and true. I'll draw some diagrams if you'd like

Hi there. My knowledge on Physics is a bit limited (I'm a Biology-person ) so I passed on this idea to a friend who loves his Physics, studying Physics and Engineering at the moment and also a fan of Zoids and he gave a nice answer:
"Firstly in regards to the stabilizers on the back of the Geno (and BF) legs. Yes they are relatively smooth surfaces but you can see there is at least one notched part on it to grip the ground, and when they are deployed, they smash into the ground meaning they become dug-in rather than just static friction gripping the surface. This would create an anchor point that they could pass the energy from the blast back into the earth. The earth gaining or loosing momentum depends on the angle rather than the Geno (or BF) flying backwards.
On the subject of them flying backwards, I'm not sure if they would fly backwards or actually rotate about their legs, they only have one support in the direction that they are shooting the blast so they would only slide back if the blast was through the center of mass of the Zoid itself. If it wasn't, the force would provide a torque and the Zoid would spin backwards. This would be stopped by the Zoid's only strength and rigidity, so then the stablisers would be needed to stop sliding. So yes I do think the stabilisers are there so stop the Geno (and BF) from moving. In regards to the panther, I dont think a strong enough internal absorbing system would exist, theoretically of course, where would all the force be going? Maybe into a huge spinning flywheel but I don't know. Yes, the panther would have greater static friction with the ground but as before unless the blast was perfectly through the center of mass, it would rotate. The rotating would be less because being longer, a greater torque would be needed to lift the front of the zoid as it's further away from the axis. If the feet are only resting on the surface, the panther would just back-flip because it's still quite light. The center of mass would be below the main body and mouth because of the mass in the legs and feet (this would be unavoidable due to the shape of the zoid unless it had huge counter balances but that would make it really slow in all other situations). When firing the cannon, because it will be firing from above the center of mass, it would cause a torque about the front that would rotate it about the back feet. This is entirely assuming that it also doesn't move back if it does absorb most of it with some kind of internal system.
And a note on friction, it's calculated with f=U*M*G. U is the co-efficient of friction of the surface aka the feet and the ground; let's assume this will be the same for both zoids. G gravity would be the same also cause they are on the same planet. The Panther would be slightly heavier I'd say so it would only have slightly more friction with the surface, the fact that it has 4 feet instead of 2 is irrelevant.
Basically yes I agree with you [Stompy1] but ALSO you would need stabilisers on the Zoid to grip into the ground to stop it sliding and spinning as it fires."
Notes from me now again Speaking about the center of gravity above, notice how when the Genos or BFs (Berserk Fury) fire their CPC, they lower their necks (and raise their tail) so they end up shooting lower than where their head usually is? That's because they're shooting (about) in line with their COG (the extra armour and weight in their legs lead me to believe it would lower their COG from just their stomach where the main weight is). I actually didn't notice any of that until I read that response from my friend. Might also help for your Zoid in particular to look at the Liger Zero Panzer unit; four-legged Zoid which doesn't have a CPC but has A LOT of mounted weapons. Its armour is heavily weighted too in order to help counter-act the recoil of all those weapons but it doesn't have the stabilizers the Genos do, and that's why in the anime we see it fly backwards from recoil after shooting.

I LOVE how you designed the CPC to work! Unlike many felid zoids with CPCs that just... happen, this one makes so much sense. This is a fantastic thing you're undertaking and it's so under-appreciated! I can't wait to see more! C:

Lol that has quite hilarious. I am very fond of your audio additions, adds a lot.
I would suggest putting some guns or other weapons on top of that wall, and little guns, pretty big, larger than anything you could mount on that Zoid. Lol.
Anyway. Very nice job I love it!
