Even when I was twelve and still making fan characters... I made my own without tracing. I designed them from the ground up and I didn't need to trace over some poor animator's work.

I think tracing is a good way to practice, BUUUTTT, don't friggin' upload it and claim you drew it. Its fine to reference and trace in order to improve, but for peeps sake! Draw your own characters!!

It's not your damn OC. Changing the colors doesn't make it a different character, and it's insulting to those of us who go out of our way to NOT reiterate what's already been done, both in fan characters and in total originals.

I've desinged my chars too from the start to the end, not based by some screenshot and I hate when people do it >_< Great stamp!

Eh, well, lots of people like to trace anime screenshots, change the colors and call it "their character."

And actually, I did that trace/recolor myself (so I wouldn't have to yoink something and get a thousand preteens screeching at me), but if you look around long enough I'm sure you'll find one somewhere.

True true. I know someone who made bases out of the little images in pokemon. You know, when you play the gameboy games and the battle screen comes up? They're little sprites, your opponents. Yeah. She's made a 'base set' with those. >.O -nods-

Yeah, I was talking to a doller who said that unfortunately, tracing is pretty much considered "the norm" among base makers. I can understand using a stock photo or something else that you have permission to use, but tracing off someone else's art without their permission is just low.
I confronted someone who did that once, and she said, "I'm not asking credit for the picture, I'm asking credit for the base." But that doesn't matter because she was still re-distributing someone else's artwork
I don't understand why it doesn't set off a red flag for these people.
