I think the fart was more the journal of $chix0r about the new policy.
Sure devintART is a business and their goal is to make money, but when 2000+ customers complain about the product you can't just go " LALALLALA WE CAN'T HEAR YOU"
I find it even more ridiculous when they ask us to be openminded when the only one who made no compromise we're the admins. Lot of people said things like : "I don't approve nor think tracing has its place in an art community, however vector art and comic inker are acceptable." Wich show how the community would accept some sort of compromise, but instead they respond to us in a very arrogant and immature manner and made absolutly no compromise.
Community survive on compromise, it just wasn't made on the right side.
(oh and when I say vector is acceptable I'm thinking about stull like [link] or [link] where its stock photo used with the autorisation . Not the crappy anime screenshot vector.)

It's been a year though. They're letting people do things that aren't right or creative or helpful. They're letting people steal. Maybe I'm a bit quick to go over, but it's so hard not to, you know?

Well, a year gave us time to build up support for our cause. It's unfortunate that the first article went relatively unnoticed back in January 2008, but it does have almost as many rejections as is it does favs... and well, look at this one.
This year gave us a taste of what happens when you lax a policy that shouldn't be laxed. And now it's apparent how many members or the community are just plain ol' pissed.
So, while it has been far too long, and I'm a little scared they won't listen, let's hope that we've farted back loud enough for them to get the picture.

I think he's way too stubborn and the more resistance he meets from anything HE wants or any ideas HE has, the more incentive he has to keep it exactly as he pleases, just out of spite. I think he has a huge ego and a god complex and I can't see why he's still in power. God, that place must be a shit hole to work in. I can't even begin to imagine the office politics that go on there, especially those surrounding him.

Yeah, they keep spouting all this BS about trying to be "inclusive" and support beginner artists, but you know what-- you have to draw a line somewhere. And I would draw it at art theft.
It's not like there aren't thousands of stock photographs and thousands of individual artists who might, if asked nicely, might allow someone to trace or vectorize their work. Nobody needs to trace anime screenshots.

I personally am against even the scraps idea, except in instances where the tracer has permission, because... it would still be the art theft we're campaigning against, no matter what section it was in. 
But it would admittedly be a step in the right direction and better than what we have now.

You're right.
Logically, tracing with permission should be the ONLY time it's allowed, but it seems like scraps are like an unlimited photobucket. I mean, they even allow GAME SCREENSHOTS in the scraps gallery. (Which rather irritates me, since I'm going into game design when I get out of school. I wouldn't want people calling pictures from my games their own.)
