It irritates me too. They used to not allow game screenshots either.
But so much of this is based on their "we don't think we'll mind" mindset. Which is ridiculous. I added a section to the mission statement about that.

Yeah, I've reported game screen shotsbefore. It really sickens me, because that's outright art theft.
It seems that dA's a big joke nowadays. Bending over backwards to defend a few choice idiots who just happen to have purchased subs, aside from being a HUGE insult to fanartists like me, is making dA earn a credibility level equal to myspace or facebook.

This is absolute bullshit. I should move to ConceptArt.org or some other art community website that actually acts "professional" and has common sense & policies full of loop-holes to cover up their own skin. dA is a damn JOKE. A complete and utter laughing stock this is.
Haha great pic, pretty much describes everything.

I have been slowly transitioning over to other websites. Seriously, even Sheezy doesn't allow this.
But, I will gladly support dA again if this policy changes...

O_O I know...Sheezy of all places. Least they know what's right.
I'm addicted to dA lol. ._.'' This better get sorted...but nobody seems to listen and we get continous slaps in the face. A whole damn YEAR of this commotion towards the tracing issue and nothing has changed. Heartless bunch...T_T''

Sheezy and Gaia both are on the anti-tracing side. It makes me lawl XD
I'm addicted to dA as well. :C I really hope it doesn't come down to me leaving entirely, but I don't feel like I'll be able to support this site anymore if this crap continues.

Aye same. If it worsens I'll personally write a complaint letter and send it to the head of the entire website. All I need is the official home address of dA.
Maybe that would work...

It's very small, but it's a great community. They're strict on tracing. Hell, they don't even allow people to post deviations with song lyrics they didn't write themselves in it. XD It's awesome.

stop-tracing In reply to TuxedoDemon [2009-02-01 22:08:02 +0000 UTC]
Ah, it's easy, you just find the report button on a submission and throw some evidence and stuff in the text box... and send it.
The hardest part was finding the button >_>

TuxedoDemon In reply to stop-tracing [2009-02-02 01:27:19 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I found the report button, but like, I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to put in the blanks. Somebody was using a background from a Disney movie, and I knew that's where it was from, but wasn't sure if I actually needed evidence for that, or where to find it for that matter. They took it down when I told them to, so it was no big deal, but meh... Not everyone's easy like that.

I do hope this doesn't get reported for 'hate art'. But then I guess this is conceptual.
I'm pretty sure I read that article before, but when I read the allowed/not allowed part for deviations...I had to reread that seven times.
Outrageous.
I commend you though. It's just like the deal with =Vampirella87 I watched and faved her because I was actually naive enough to think that she was referencing because I thought the admins would have removed her stuff if it wasn't approved.
Many of my friends and watched peoples' journals sure were a slap in the face. And I saw that Vampirella87's stuff had been reported like, thirty times before. No action was taken.
For people like them, the only thing we can do is to raise awareness for this kind of thing and show concrete proof that it's not actual art.
In times like these, we cannot rely on the admins. We must rely on ourselves and the power of the community.
The admins may have left us to fend for ourselves and dealing with the outrages, but we can still do something about it.
The more people know about the fact that she's a tracer, maybe her faves will get removed as well as her watchers. If she becomes almost a nobody, maybe she'll pack her bags and leave.
This does apply to all art tracers, but I just wanted to make a point. Whoops, I turned this into a rant again Sorry!

I would think of it more as a political cartoon, deviantART style.
You are totally right! This time the community has to step up and say, "Hey guys, this tracing thing sucks!"
Ranting is good, we like ranting~

SilentQi In reply to stop-tracing [2009-02-02 00:05:57 +0000 UTC]
Mmm...perhaps I should also make a dA political cartoon to raise awareness. I'm really busy IRL right now but I'm sure I can make allowances.
Most people just are too naive. I watched a tracer for a while because I refused to believe anyone would actually stoop that low, even if I did have my suspicions.
We need to post proof of tracings up so that people know it's not a coincidence and show that it is NOT OKAY, just because many others do it. You see many people smoking, but does that mean it's totally okay?
It's not about if tracings suck or not--even though it's true for most of them. I think it's more about protecting artist rights than anything. Most the time we just get pissed because tracers have no talent and are just for the attention. But some artists are attention whores too.
Tracing simply should be stopped because it's unethical, disgraceful, annoying, disrespectful, and because it's hypocrisy for dA not to stop this when dA has long stood for artist rights.
Oh gawd, I really should stop ranting from now on, huh? I get so off topic! *chews thumbnail*

SilentQi In reply to sd-stock [2009-02-01 17:10:13 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. But it's really sad when people rant on tracers pages and do nothing but get themselves blocked. In the hopeless cases (tracers who ignore the hundreds of people who tell them tracing is wrong) we need to affect them in an indirect way.
