'This can't be happening,' Bonnie thought. 'There's no way this is real.' One minute ago, she had been taunting Olivia about the futility of trying to escape from her cast, and in an instant she found herself encased from the waist up in blue fiberglass. She could feel a hard plastic mouthpiece in her mouth, and an intrusive tube extending down her throat -- she tried to bring her hands up to her face, but her arms were held in place by the solid blue shell. Bonnie frantically looked at Olivia, desperate for an explanation, but Olivia could only respond with a terrified look and an unintelligible mmmph!

Olivia had just demonstrated that her cast was inescapable, and Bonnie could tell that hers seemed identical except for color, but she still had to try. She kicked the couch back a few feet and knelt down on the ground, then struggled and fought to find some movement in her upper body. She couldn't move her jaw at all; she expected to be able to tilt her head back a tiny amount, until she pressed against the cast over her nose and at the back of her head, but it felt like her teeth were glued into the mouthpiece that was anchored to the cast over her face. Underneath the terror and claustrophobia, some part of Bonnie's mind registered that this was odd: there would have been no reason for Olivia's teeth to be glued to her mouthpiece since her cast wasn't meant to actually treat a broken jaw, nor had Olivia intended to wear it for more than a day or two at most.

After minutes of frantic struggling, Bonnie gave up and collapsed to the floor, panting. She looked at Olivia and mmmph'd in desperation, then clumsily got to her feet. She walked to the dining room table and looked down at her phone, then twisted and bent back and forth at the waist, using her pinky finger to make an emergency call.

"911, what's your emergency?"

"MMMMMMPH! MMM NN-MMM HMMMM NNNMMMM!"

"Oh my, okay, I'll dispatch the police right away. Ma'am, are you safe for the moment? Or can you get to safety?"

"mmm-hmm."

"Okay, the police have received the dispatch, they're on their way."

... "hmm-mmm."

"No police?"

"mmm-hmm-lmmmnnn!"

"Ambulance?"

"mmm-hmm!"

"Got it, I'll cancel the police dispatch and get an ambulance to your location right away. Can you stay on the line?"

"mmm-hmm."

Bonnie kept the call active, and used her pinky finger to unlock her phone and open the text messaging app. She slowly typed a message to Olivia, and almost sent it, then realized she may as well just show it directly to her. She beckoned for Olivia to come to the table, and pointed at the message, which read "Is your mouthpiece glued to your teeth?"

Olivia looked confused, quickly mmmph'd a "no", then moved her head backward, almost imperceptibly. Her eyes widened, and Olivia looked terrified as she corrected her earlier answer with a frantic "mmm-hmm!"
