I think about hygiene. It is likely that it gets itchy (likely very itchy) in such large casts. So itchy, that it can drive you insane! This could collide with their goal to stabilize Natalie's mental health.

Funny, but despite their animosity I think they will become firm friends, what with having so much time to kill, and, well, needs.
And the thing with Marta can go both ways, Natalie could be impressed the nurses took revenge, or she could use it as blackmail to either keep Steph with her, or get something done about her own situation.
