I started a "Batman Beyond" Netflix marathon over the break--it's one of those favorite shows of mine that I don't talk about much, but I really love it--the characters are fun, the villains are cool, the plots are pretty engaging.

Considering it's a series based around Batman's successor--and not primarily Batman--it could have turned out really cheap or really bad (like Disney sequel bad, where everything is just a re-hash or a less interesting version of the kids going on similar adventures as their parents), but it's actually pretty smart and interesting.  I'll almost consider it as smart as "Gargoyles" in some regards, albeit not quite as complex (most of the villains have very basic motives).
Plus do I even have to mention how awesome the theme music is?  For a series that aired in 1999, that theme could have been dated quite badly, but even though it sounds like a product of the late 1990s/early 2000s, it's still holds up really well.

I also adore the background art--it's very smooth and a very nice blend of a retro art style depicting futuristic elements.  Despite all the crime and something life-threatening happening pretty much every other week, if I could visit Neo Gotham, I would because it looks awesome.

Anyway, here's some colored pencil practice I did over the holiday break, nothing special or too detailed, just an excuse to draw purple skies.  I need to get more diverse with my skyline backgrounds; I know I've used this angle waaaay too many times before.

When you mentioned "Batman Beyond", I couldn't help but look up the opening theme song.  It does sound pretty freaking cool.

I never really watched it much as a kid since it looked scary to me back then, but I have an appreciation for the "Batman" series now and I do like some of the movies, like the original "Batman" by Tim Burton and the Christopher Nolan renditions.

I also miss some of the more detailed animation that the show has, unlike some of the recent animated shows.

I like "Batman: The Animated Series" a bit better, but then again, "Beyond" IS a good show. It came out during my Junior year of highschool, however, and I was discovering video games, so...

Oh, don't get me wrong, "Batman: The Animated Series" is an incredible show--definitely more complex and mature than "Batman Beyond" (for the most part), I just grew up watching more of the latter so I have a slightly deeper connection to it. :3

same here for Animated.

aahhhh, look at all the youngsters who haven't got a clue which shows we're talking about. Makes you feel not-as-young-as-you-used-to-be, huh?

I have to admit, when I heard something like "Gargoyles" was celebrating it's 20th anniversary, it did seem surreal to me.

Haha, she looks like she's just chillin' up there. cx

Nice job! Love the design!

Batman is my favorite superhero, and not because he's always like "I sense trouble, lets save the hot 50's ladies, dun dun da daa" or anything xD But it's because he's more dark and the villains are really creepy and surreal.
