#001-B:Askew and Sirius Baker at the #Teepee-Trials !

"Oh, Si, she looks wonderful!"

Askew's ears pricked, recognizing Leora's voice even through the speaker phone on Sirius's cell. The young mare promptly stuck her nose next to the phone, snorting loudly as she tried to figure out what it was. Leora's laugh bubbled through the other end.

"Was that Askew?"

Sirius, chuckling himself, pushed the overgrown puppy out of the way. "Yea, it was her. She misses you... You should be the one here, not me."

A brief pause from Leora's end caused a silence to fall over the beach, with only the wind to disturb it. "You two will do just fine without me," she responded.

Sirius could tell she was trying to be playful but the disappointment in her voice was hard to conceal. He scratched his head with his free hand, a habit for him when he was unsure or hesitant. "I suppose," he responded, not sure of what else to say.

Leora, apparently picking up on the awkward turn the conversation was taking, quickly filled the void. "Did you set up your teepee yet?"

"No, that's not till tomorrow. My dad is here with the trailer, just in case it rains tonight." He could almost see Leora smiling in approval. Nothing mattered to her more than the health of her horse and, even if it was just one night, keeping Askew out of the rain was perfectly fine with her.

A muffled, cranky voice from the background shouted at Leora. Sirius caught the words 'poop' and 'Gemma' but couldn't hear the rest. Sirius could hear her sigh. "Alright well I have to go. Apparently there is another fire that Jack needs me to put out." She pretended to be irritated at the interruption but Sirius could hear the amusement in her voice. "Great job with the paint, by the way. Couldn't have done better myself."

Sirius laughed. Leora was incredibly creative, far more so than he was. His haphazard attempt at finger painting on Askew's spotted coat was laughable but, he supposed, decent enough. Besides, if Leora was happy, he was happy. "You're just being nice."

"Okay... Maybe a little," she laughed before continuing, "I'll call you later tonight to make sure she's settling in okay."

They exchanged goodbyes and, with a click, the phone call ended.

Askew, having wandered to the end of her hackamore's reins, had dropped her nose to the sand and started to create little puffs of sand with her breath. Sirius walked toward the Georgian Grande, scratching her shoulder as he looked out over her back and across the lake.

Despite being at the camp a day early, to beat the rush, there were a surprising number of campers already making themselves comfortable in their new surroundings. Their camping spot was right in the center, closest to the fire pit, in section B. When his father had gone to the trailer to take a nap, Sirius had taken Askew down to the beach to get away from the bustle of activity at the campground.

He realized now that Leora must have been one of the first people to sign up and he shook his head. The girl always had some new, crazy idea that she just had to follow. Camp Miniwakan was her latest but, due to a sprained ankle, she had been unable to compete. He shook his head in amusement, remembering how little begging it had taken her to convince him to go in her stead. After all, he did live only an hour from where the camp was being held and he didn't have any other plans.

He let himself think those were the reasons, anyway.

Askew snorted and dragged her right hoof into the sand, clearly getting antsy with standing in one place for too long. "Bored already, huh?" Askew's ears pinned. "Oh, you beast, you can't be hungry again!" The mare bobbed her head and snorted loudly again, as if in agreement. Sirius chuckled and, in one fluid, practiced motion, pulled himself up onto the mare's bare back. Despite being green, she stood stock still, waiting expectantly for direction.

Patting the mare's sturdy neck, Sirius pressed his heel against her sides as urged Askew into a trot toward the trailers. Sand flew out from beneath Askew's painted hooves as she moved forward, eager to get to their destination. Leaving the cloudy beach behind, Sirius's thoughts turned to the hot dogs in the fridge, just waiting to be grilled, and the girl who was always on his mind...

Anddd we have a Sirius! I think this is the first time I've actually drawn him out, minus the sketchy staff picture that I have for him. Leora was supposed to be the one entering but when she injured her ankle from an embarrassing fall down the stairs, she called Sirius to step in for her since he lives only an hour or so away. I had wanted to get official training images in for Askew but life got to me so assume that she is completely broken, just a bit green!

Note that, in this image, they are at the beach taking a break from all the campers!

This isn't what I wanted it to be for their arrival/horse painting image but it'll have to do. There are too many other things that I need to do. xD Note that Askew's bangles/bobbles may change when I found out what tribe we are in!! For now, she's got a rope hackamore on with eagle feathers and yellow beads dangling from the base of the mouthpiece and, in her tail, a silver pendant holds crimson ribbons with yellow beads, hawk feathers, and eagle feathers from falling out. Her mane is, for now, dyed with non-permanent Kool-aid (WOOOOT) so don't be surprised if that changes color or disappears entirely. xD
