Description Don't know what else to call this one, because that is what it is!

I wasn't sure about posting this shot because its a little up close and personal (you can see how uneven my chin is from cracking it open on a rock when I was a kid!) and the only editing was to crop out my motion-blurred friend, but I like how you can see my 10lbs of makeup and how honest it is to how conventions actually look. Bad lighting, awkward background and all.

I think sometimes people can forget that cosplayers are just people too and none of us are super models. It can be easy to forget with all the extremely photoshopped images, fansites and names that we're all just nerds who get to play pretend at being sexy, evil or confident for a weekend while we hang out with our fellow nerds and look for good deals on stuff we could live without but really, really want for our useless but priceless collections.

I honestly love conventions and cosplay, the humongous time and cash sucks that they are, because I have met so many cool friends and people and have done so many strange things most people don't get to accomplish in their lives. If it weren't for cosplay I wouldn't know how to do my every day makeup, wear high heels or have learned to take photos without feeling shy or awkward. It gave me a lot of self confidence despite not being a super skinny or perfect gal and I probably won't stop until I need a walker.

Costume and cosplayer are me! Photo taken by my friend JJ.

A. You look nice as evil.

B. Is this what happens when Thor proposes to you ?

If Thor proposed to Loki I'm not sure if he would laugh, cry or go along with it to bind him with some sort of self destructive ring at the ceremony.

Nice cosplay!

Very sensual and confident. Perfect for a gender-swap Loki!

Thanks!

Lady Loki is strange in the sense it's not an actual genderswap, as much as he stole a woman's body and decided to wear it a little while... Loki is a messed up guy

My pleasure!

Oh, I didn't realize.
Well, he is a god and all, so I suppose he can do such a thing.
Well, in any case, he really made a good choice in occupying your body. Godhood suits you.

Thank you! The makeup was a bit of a rush job for this convention, but I had a lot of fun picking a style I thought would work for Loki and make it so my face didn't disappear behind the horns

Sugar-Bolt In reply to strikes-twice [2012-11-17 19:33:38 +0000 UTC]

I like the make up's sharp edges, its perfect for a Lady Loki personality. Also, what are these "flaws" you speak of in your description? You made yourself out to be this burnt hunchback LOL. You're far too modest--you're gorgeous! You look healthy, have smooth skin, lovely hair, a symmetrical face and lovely lips. True, every one has flaws, even models, but that is the point, everyone does, and you're beautiful anyway!

Nothing I love more than honesty, and I definitely admire your courage to be this honest with us. Though, I admit, I don't see any such flaws at all, no bad lighting or awkward background or anything

This is a pretty cool shot.

Its grown on me! When I first posted it all I could see were the little imperfections, but now I don't notice it as much maybe because of all the nice things people have said, and because I always scrutinize every photo to death before I post it!

As always, thanks for your kind words and support

I like the up close detail shot is shows all the work you guys put into this costume!

Between the Zatanna cosplay and this one I'm not sure which I like better..Hmmm... Either way you look gorgeous!

I can't wait to see what cosplays you come up when you need a walker!

strikes-twice In reply to TheCosbinator [2012-11-17 18:25:15 +0000 UTC]

Me either! Though I think Zatanna will always have a special place in my heart because of how classy the design is, though Loki DOES have the cape...

First on the list is old Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle! Either that or Cruella Deville

TheCosbinator In reply to strikes-twice [2012-11-17 19:41:11 +0000 UTC]

Just looked up the character Sophie. And my vote (if it even mattered) would be Cruella!! How would you pull off all that fur! PLEASE DON'T TELL ME YOU HAVE TO KILL PUPPIES!! ..In turn becoming the character you are creating!!

I'm sure you've probably collected all sorts of reference.

But here's one I just found that shows off her outfit pretty well.

strikes-twice In reply to TheCosbinator [2012-11-18 16:45:39 +0000 UTC]

God I love Cruella... I wish I could do it now, but I just don't have that 50 year old who drinks too much gin & tonic and smokes instead of eating look going on yet!

I don't HAVE to kill the puppies, I could just sort of... drape them over me? I'll make a jacket of dogtreats and maybe they'll just glue themselves on.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheCosbinator In reply to strikes-twice [2012-11-19 03:34:45 +0000 UTC]

Maybe you could be Cruella in her prime!

Haha, that's ingenious! And slliiightly more humane.

*side note* I couldn't stop singing the Cruella Deville theme song in my head that entire day..

strikes-twice In reply to TheCosbinator [2012-11-19 17:55:51 +0000 UTC]

But young Cruella wouldn't be half as cool or hot, at least IMHO. I love her FOR being a scary cougar.

ME TOO.

I love your author's comments, all of it is so true.
Especially the make-up part, lol. I wouldn't dream of even touching it if it weren't for cosplay, and I'm still learning.

You look awesome in this shot btw.

strikes-twice In reply to MistressMyst [2012-11-17 18:26:44 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I always had an interest in makeup but was always a tomboy so I never had the guts to get into it until cosplay, then when I started learning all the techniques I couldn't get enough! Cosplay definitely made me get in touch with my feminine side, as silly as that is

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MistressMyst In reply to strikes-twice [2012-12-06 01:09:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I don't think I would willing touch makeup if it wasn't for cosplay even though I was starting to have an interest in it.
It definitely forces you to be more social too, because if you are in costume, people are going to approach you.

I definitely look forward to going to more conventions.

For sure. Cosplay really helped me to become a more outgoing person who isn't afraid to approach others Good luck on your future cons and cosplay!

Beautiful as always; i prefer this up close and person look at you, I think players are sometimes afraid to get personal because they dont want you to see the flaws. But we all have flaws and that is what makes us unique. Once again beautiful, One to rule them all. I choose you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

strikes-twice In reply to statenjp [2012-11-17 18:29:41 +0000 UTC]

Its definitely an issue. It was never a big deal when I was first starting out in cosplay, but now it's like if you have any imperfections whatsoever they need to be photoshopped out or you're hideous. It's gotten to the point where I find it difficult to tell where some cosplayers end and the PS begins, and its always a little uncanny when you see them in person and they look different (and imho, usually way better).

Thanks again!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

statenjp In reply to strikes-twice [2012-11-18 20:53:40 +0000 UTC]

I agree there are a few cosplayers I follow and i have debated if photoshop is included in some of their pics. Some look just "too perfect". But what can you do except your best, if you love the character you'll love the outcome. No one else opinion matters except your own.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

strikes-twice In reply to statenjp [2012-11-19 17:51:02 +0000 UTC]

I would say in one way or another PS is included in almost every cosplay picture, if only because most cosplayers need to adjust lighting since most conventions are so terrible or to edit out con badges.

I don't see a problem with touching up your photos a little, but I think IMHO you should only ever edit yourself to look like you do in person- never better. I can only imagine how silly I would feel if I editted myself down to a size 2 and changed everything I didn't like about myself, then to meet someone who'd seen pics in person and not even be recognizable!

statenjp In reply to strikes-twice [2012-11-19 19:47:15 +0000 UTC]

Exactly I expect that when I see you I will still be able to recognize you even if its a different costume you are still you, Tho I did like your post awhile back sans contacts wig and makeup in the t-shirt that was a good "casual" look inside the cosplayer.

I'm a bit of a chameleon from costume to costume (or so I've been told) but I have no doubt you'll be able to pick me out!

No PS, wig or contacts in that picture but I was definitely still wearing makeup

I couldn't miss the most beautiful girl in the room, plus as Wanda you'll be radiant making it even easier to find you.

But yes I loved that pic of you OOC, it was a nice touch. You'll have to try and find a good Magneto to take a pic with, or Quicksilver.
