Influenza- 48 Hour Bug, is a pretty inaccurate name. Influenza doesn't usually cause barfing, as it affects the lungs, and the spell usually only lasts about a half an hour. It is, however, great at ending fights, as puking your brains out does make it hard to fight back.
And why didn't the monster go after Lily while Komachi was down? Because Komachi would have seen it, and it would be that much easier to track down. The tentacles are the only thing it lets you see. And yes, it did just curse in French.
