This is a cool shot, in the sense that it's something different. I haven't seen a small spider that close, so it's interesting. However, it seems that the picture lacks a central focus. I am guessing that your focus was on the spider, however, since it takes up less than 1/10 of the picture, it doesn't accomplish that effect. You could try to zoom in more in the future, or if you prefer to take pictures of small objects, try to make sure that there are more of them (objects) to make up for the empty space.

glad you likes

the spider was just a baby.. maybe 1/6 the size of my finger nail... also i only have one lense, 18-55 mm. its kinda hard gettin up close to stuff, wasnt even expecting this pic to turn out this good when i cropped the pic i left in some empty space to not distort it too much and left the shadows in the pic for composition

i really and truly appreciate the critiques!! always something more to improve on

No problem. I just hope it helped and that I didn't sound too critical.

WafflezComic [2009-03-17 06:08:41 +0000 UTC]

this pic came out rather well i must say.
my only critique really falls in with something that happens a lot when ppl take pics of animals or nature scenes, since you can't really tell the spider to stay still.
a decent chunk of him is out of focus, once again, not really a lot that could be done since you cant talk to a spider to tell it to stay still, but the way the part that is sharp contrasts with the rest of the picture is great! it would just emphasis the spider more if he was in focus.
good photo is good!

thanks!! yaa. there was only time for 3 pics.. the other 2 he was rearing up at me and this just turned out nicer with his shadow and all.

lol, it's a snag anyone i've seen who has pics of animals hits. i try to comment more in generality, just so if you ever set up a shot similar, haha

Spiders.. They creep me out. This one is kind of cute in a weird way. :] The focus is a little off, it should have been right on the spider. I still like the photo though.

imbrokentoday [2009-03-16 08:49:37 +0000 UTC]

needs more focus on the spider (if that's what you want the focus to be on). Other than that, this could be a great macro shot!

SublimeBudd In reply to imbrokentoday [2009-03-16 15:24:24 +0000 UTC]

thank you! yahh, it was pretty hard to achieve this shot with my lense i had a few chances to get it and this one turned out best i think

imbrokentoday In reply to SublimeBudd [2009-03-17 01:51:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes, with timing and focusing the lens needs a lot of effort. But hey! You almost got it! The next one will be perfect.. just keep practicing and take as many shots as you can.
