08- Tack the Cobbler

"..." (Psh, he doesn't need to talk to be awesome.)

Tack is from a beautifully animated film with a long, tragic history called "The Thief and the Cobbler". This movie was in and out of production for twenty-some-odd years before being dropped by its original distributors. The two corporations that finally did release it only did so after slicing it up and throwing it back together with added songs and multiple changes. It wasn't until recently when a fan cut together the finished pieces with unfinished storyboards and animation that we finally got to see the film in its intended form.

Tack is the hero of this unfortunate film, one of two charmingly silent main characters. It's not that he can't speak so much that he doesn't need to, and I much prefer it that way (for some reason they felt that he needed not only to talk but to narrate the ENTIRE FILM). His only forms of expression are his eyes and the nails that he constantly keeps in his mouth. The surprising usefulness of his cobbling talents pops up again and again in the movie, and I especially enjoy when he works with his thread. Smart, courageous, and completely adorable, it's impossible not to love this guy.

I recommend "The Thief and the Cobbler: The Recobbled Cut" [link]

.......OH. I was about to ask "where are his tacks??" and they're right there forming his smile. XD;;; I totally forgot he can do that.

And if I'm also remembering correctly, this movie was many years older than Aladdin but was forced to work around the Disney film so as not to look like a knock-off. ¦\

Yay for less talk, more mind-bending 2-D action.

I got about a quarter through the film before I was like, "...OH! It's a tack smile... Awww!" Later I re-watched the beginning and was like, "Oh, there's his tack smile... AWWWW! "

...Y-yeah, Tack's cute.

YES. By like 28 years. Warner Bros. bailed out of it for that reason. Though I am giving some props to Disney for trying a number of times to start a project to finish the last fifteen minutes of incompleted animation. Hasn't worked yet, but here's hoping.

Oh my gosh, that finale scene. O_O Hoooly cow. And none of it's digital.

In one of its numerous forms, yes. ^^ I'm sure it's pretty nostalgic, I was only recently introduced to it.

Oh, I used to watch this movie all the time when I was little! I got the disc out of a cereal box.

OH YEAH. I read about that. The most we got out of a cereal box was a PC game, I think.
