Description
Well. I bought a dvd of silence of the lambs (fantastic film) and got inspired, so here is a painting of everybody's favourite cannabilistic sociopathic serial killer: Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins)I had great troubles with Crapcam on this. Uploaded onto my comp and pixellated beyond belief, I had to use Smart blur and blur tool and clone tool and colour adjustment etc...which is why it now looks a bit odd.
I painted this picture with Acrylics and a nice Chianti....sluuuuurps.
New edit*
I'd spelled the man's name wrong in the title, which frankly made me look a bit stupid. It has been corrected!

Thank you. I hope I got it okay. There was a kind of distance and dreamlike quality to this scene, almost surreal.

Thank you. I've seen all the movies (including Manhunter) except Hannibal Rising. It also happens that I haven't read the book of that either. Will have to seek it out soon.
Thank you again

Hannibal Lector--- Wow... you did a wonderfull job!!! Love the warm tones, your job on the shadows/shading... there is something behind those eyes. LOL... I had a crush on Lector --- odd, I know. I think Anthony was a perfect choice.

Thank you . His eyes were mesmerising in this movie, he had this hooded, almost dream like look in them. You're not the only one who harboured a crush. I like to think it was because of his intelligence charm and manners and not because he ate people. Then again...

absolutely beautiful.
"sir" anthony hopkins played the part wonderfully, and you've brought across everything that he stood for in the films, onto our screens.
his inquisitiveness, his "dark side", and his charm.
lovely.
absolutely love it. definately.

Painting is such a great thing to do. I'm madly in love with flinging acrylic on canvas, it's really relaxing and yet challenging. Pick a medium and go for it!

the detail in the face is great. i'm not sure if this is because of the pixellation problem you were talking about, but the area from his shoulders to his pecks looks very flat. this is accentuated by the fact that you're using such a bright white because white on a black ground appears to be coming forward. because that shape is so flat and so white it was the first thing my eye traveled to in the picture. this is bad because you obviously want the focal point to be lector's face. so you might want to rework that a little so it has more depth and draws the eye towards the face.
other than that awesome job! and silence of the lambs fucking rules!!

sullen-skrewt In reply to chezecakebettie [2008-02-27 19:41:42 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! It does look seriously flat from the shoulders. This may have had something to do with the amount of blurring but tbh I the fault would lie with me. I love painting faces, but everything else tends to get little attention paid to it. I know exactly what you mean about the focal point. I think maybe reworking the shirt, giving the edges a bit more shading, dulling the white right down, subtle highlights on the arm and less sharp contours on the shoulder would improve it.
Thank you for the excellent critique and absolutely agree with you about Silence of the Lambs - I can never get bored watching it!

Beautiful :) Snapped up my attention in an instant. I hold great admiration for Hannibal Lecter, he feels and breathes like a real person, at least to me.
I love the sullen look in his eyes. He's always in his own world, his... mind palace. Except when he's with Clarice :) (again, at least to me)
I can just hear "Aria de Capa" from the "Goldberg Variations", just from those eyes, how distanced they seem.
Don't know why I'm feeling so elated right now. Almost at a loss for words.
So I'll stop now and end it with a :)

I just gave a huge rambling response to brain attics, sherlock Holmes and the mind palace. It didn't post so I'll just say I know what you mean about the character coming to life.
Also that piece of music is beautiful and I pretty much associate it with that movie.
Thank you so much

Pleasure was mine
Personally, the only version of Aria de Capo that sounds right to me is the one that Hannibal supposedly played in, well, the movie Hannibal. During the opening credits, performed by Glenn Goud. Feels like one can be anywhere, listening to that melody.
I can go on and on with how I admire the character. So perhaps I shouldn't start
I do think though that it would be rather grand if Anthony Hopkins had maroon eyes, as depicted in the book. I suppose it doesn't matter so much :)
