Description
Well. I bought a dvd of silence of the lambs (fantastic film) and got inspired, so here is a painting of everybody's favourite cannabilistic sociopathic serial killer: Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins)I had great troubles with Crapcam on this. Uploaded onto my comp and pixellated beyond belief, I had to use Smart blur and blur tool and clone tool and colour adjustment etc...which is why it now looks a bit odd.
I painted this picture with Acrylics and a nice Chianti....sluuuuurps.
New edit*
I'd spelled the man's name wrong in the title, which frankly made me look a bit stupid. It has been corrected!

This is beautiful! Probably one of the best Lecter inspired artworks I've seen.

Now that is spooky! It almost seems Baroque, and I think it sets the perfect mood for the character, even if some of it may be a happy accident due to the 'crapcam'
Yowch, you have my sympathies on that front. Paintings are always so tricky to take digital, but I think that the photoshop tweaking worked well. I actually thought that this might be oils at first (which might have been caused by the blur), I wouldn't have guessed acrylic.
My favorite part is definitely the eyes

Thanks so much. Crapcam usually gives me a lot of problems. I'm looking to get a new camera soon so hopefully I won't be tearing my hair out everytime I need to smudge the bloody thing because of lines or missing colour etc... It does look like oils. I really wouldn't mind getting into them again someday, but only when I get completely bored of Acrylic.

Thankees! The original reference picture has some bars and food in the background, but I thought that starkness would work best here (I'm also incredibly lazy )

Ooo nice one. It's such a terrific film. I remember first seeing it and thinking 'that's one for the collection'. It's only recently I bought the DVD complete with outtakes and deleted scenes. Enjoy, but make sure you have a cushion to hide behind when you watch it.

I like my horror. There's a couple of classic horror movies - Night of the Demon (dana andrews) and The Haunting (Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, the original - NOT the remake) that you should check out, if you haven't done so already. They're old, but good and v. frightening.

Thank you. The eyes had to be manipulated a bit because they came out almost totally black when uploaded, but I like the eyes myself...the 'away with the fairies' look

that is REALLY GOOD - your technical skills are amazing - he looks like he's surfacing from a particularly hellish lake . . . nice dreamlike/nightmare quality here.

Cheers...I wanted to paint him as though he wants to pop out of the canvas to meet ya. It's also good foreshortening practice. I like the idea of surfacing from a hellish lake - that's a great visual which gives me ideas.

Yeah, Like Loch Ness, full of peat - nightmarish stuff. Wish I had a clue re foreshortening, it's like math to me

I'll have to do some kind of tutorial or summit to show how I would do it (pretty much an upside down triangle, and lots of swearing and painting over the damn thing.) Wouldn't mind doing tutes actually - would keep me busy I'll do a batman one

Thank you very much! He also happens to be a favourite character of mine too. I love characters with a dark side (in this case, very dark) but who exhibit charm and intelligence - the kind of people who you would invite as a dinner guest, as long as you had a cattle prod handy (for emergencies )

Lady-CaT In reply to sullen-skrewt [2007-11-08 19:56:09 +0000 UTC]
You're absolutely right. His charm and intelligence is simply irresistible. I also love his taste in art and point of view on the humanity. As I read all the books of Thomas Harris about Hannibal, I liked him even more than in the movies, though Anthony Hopkins was certainly the best choice of an actor to play his part.
