Guess who`s back? I`m still useless, but at least now I know it`s because I ain`t got enough blood in my brain (and trying to fix it). Anyway, me and Mex both thought it`s about time to start posting some Ambarra stuff here again, so without further ado...

The U!!k
Crucibulatus intactus

40 cm, 150 g

This may be the last surviving vertebrate that still shows the archaic, jawless, many-legged anatomy (though its 22 limbs are reduced to small defensive spikes). It lacks ears and radars, but is equipped with a variety of chemical, mechanical, and electrical sensors, most notably the two sensory chin bulbs. It may live up to 10-15 years due to slow metabolism, spending most of its time sleeping in the silt. It`s also inactive during flood season, spending four months hibernating in a cocoon that forms from the copious mucus covering its skin.
The four fangs and flexible lips allow to suck the blood of larger animals, take bites out of carcasses, or swallow small prey. Its wide throat is equipped with rings of backwards-facing teeth, and its primitive aspirator has something akin to the gastrognathan stomach jaws. U!!ks may act as small predators, parasites, scavengers, even detritophages, not to mention prey for many larger creatures. They usually live and hunt in uncoordinated groups of 30-40 individuals.
U!!ks reproduce right after hibernation, leaving up to 80 small eggs in the male`s sleeping pit repurposed into a nest. The eggs incubate for two weeks, metamorphosis takes six months, and sexual maturity is around three years of age.

This creature`s name contains a double sound that has no human analogues, a sort of sigh-click. Eastern jadong cultures have a variety of myths purporting to explain the absence of jaws in this "fish".
