Hailing from Tibet, Kelzang Dorje, also known as The Abbot of the 12th is the captain of the 12th division and the head of the Seireitei research and development sector and oversees all technological developments made specifically for Shinigami use. Because of his position, he works closely with the Kido Corps and the 5th division.

Kelzang is a serene, mellow man and the first to extend a hand to offer help- often at the expense of his own punctuality and time management. He is one of the most versatile and experienced captains, having served in the 6th, 4th, and 3rd divisions before becoming a lieutenant in the 12th. Initially, he did not want the captain's position after the former Captain Durani was killed in the Big Bang, but accepted it upon hearing the second choice was the former former, retired captain, who caused a lot of mistrust in the 12th before Durani took over. He laments that his new position keeps him from getting as involved with his subordinates, but luckily his lieutenant picks up the slack in paperwork. He is one of the few captains that knows his entire division by name, and has helped clean up the shady reputation the 12th once had. Not only that, he is interested in creating outreach programs to civillians and citizens of the Rukon, which has fostered him a very positive reputation throughout Soul Society.

His zanpakuto is named Thokmay (Unhindered) and is an electric type- it is unique in the fact that its abilities primarily involve using electrical charge to physically augment its wielder and hinder biological processes in opponents. In shikai, Thokmay becomes two sets of malas that Kelzang wears wrapped around his hands. On his left, the mala is white with red marker beads, and on his right are coral, also with red markers. Kelzang relies on his own Hakuda skills to supplement Thokmay's abilities, and hasn't used a 'proper weapon' in centuries.
