Description
The four main characters for my ATLA story~ Another fic for the backburner haha. Anywhosle, their story takes place twenty one years before Aang is discovered. They are all misplaced by the war, run into each other and travel together first for convenience and safety (and then of course, they all get really close). They get even closer when they kind of become the guardians of the best-kept secret of the war~ Surviving airbenders! (of course since this falls into the canonverse, you pretty much know what happens to the airbenders )

Anyway, they are all alone at first basically because of the Fire Nation, and they all have extremely different motivations before they stumble upon the airbenders.

Miksa, the waterbender, is from the Southern Tribe. She was travelling with her husband and two children to the Northern Tribe when they were ambushed and attacked by a FN squad. Miksa escaped, and set out to save her family. She almost got to her family once, while they were in transit, but was interrupted when an EN squad ambushed the prison camp. In the turmoil, the FN group wins and gets away with even more POWs than they had before. Miksa ends up letting them go to save an EN soldier that was left for dead, and the two end up travelling together to chase down the POWs. So, her main goal is to find her family (and maybe knock a few FN skulls in the process). Miksa does not like to kill, as a healer, but understands it is necessary.

Jiro, the bandit firebender, was taken from her FN colony home when she was young (accidentally) by a group of raiders. She ends up getting raised by a group of warrior monks in an EN monastery who were known for taking in orphans. Her monastery was sacked by the FN, and she and the monks were captured. After several years they escape, and Jiro decides to leave them to become a major thorn in the FN's side. She eventually has a few run-ins with a certain EN agent, and they decide to travel together. Her main goal is to liberate FN prison camps, however she has a deep internal conflict about killing FN soldiers, who she knows are just doing their job. She really, really wants to get at the Fire Lord somehow and end the war, though she knows this is impossible.

Ronin is a Dai-Lee agent that is in their 'special special forces', a small contingent of 'plainclothes' agents meant to carry out assassinations and strategic captures- things that are too morally reprehensive for the Dai-lee's or EN's name to be associated with, but that are deemed necessary for the war effort. Ronin's current mission is to track down and kill or capture an escaped firbender prisoner, one of the nation's most wanted. In his search, he continuously runs into a different renegade, and after a few meetings they decide to travel together. Ronin is very leery of Jiro at first, one because she is wanted, and two, she's a firenender. Ronin's main goal is to serve his nation and the Dai-Lee, and he has to struggle with choosing his duty over what is 'right' (like whether or not to arrest Jiro, and later, Kuan-Yin)

Kuan-Yin was born in the FN, but her soldier parents deserted as soon as Kuan-Yin was able to walk. They made it to the EN but were killed by their pursuers. Kuan-Yin survived and was found by an EN couple. They raised her to be a happy and well-adjusted EN citizen, and even encouraged her to practice her bending, thinking it would be important for her later on. Kuan-Yin eventually joins the EN army as a way to pay her adoptive nation back, and though she is a firebender she grew to detest her birth nation. She was eventually assigned to a scouting/reconnaissance squad, who were rather good at their jobs. However, one raid on a FN POW convoy went horribly wrong and her squad was captured. Kuan-Yin was left for dead, but luckily for her another raider had been in the attack. Miksa nursed her back to health, and the two set out after the POW convoy together. Kuan-Yin's main goal is to win the war, at any cost. She despises the FN, and often kills soldiers even if it is unnecessary- she feels that soldiers should be shown no mercy, since her parents sacrificed everything to do the right thing and other FN soldiers wouldn't.

ANyway, TL;DR, the two pairs wind up attacking the same FN supply train and start following each other around until Jiro and Ronin agree to help Miksa and Kuan-Yin, as long as they help find the escaped prisoner in the process. During their travels, they end up getting taken care of by a famous travelling circus, and then... the secret is revealed XD

I really like this story, ps. If I ever get time I want to keep working on it haha
