Description I see a lot of people look down on rhyming poetry as something inferior to free verse. To me, it's all expressive. I tend to write a lot more in rhyme because it comes natural to me. When someone says a rhyme sounds forced, it never is with me... whether it sounds that way or not. I can put almost anything to rhyme without breaking a sweat. Call it a talent or a curse... it's all about perspective. Anyway, this poem says it all... I write for me. If someone else likes it, that's great, if not, I can live with that too. It will influence my writing style very little either way. Enough rambling....

Well... I am one of the evident minority that can't handle either kind.

I just chalk it up to my inferior brain.

*Standing up and applauding* How awesome. I wouldn't call myself a poet, or even a poetry critic, but when the urge to write some comes over me from time to time in emotional situations, the words flow out of me in rhyme also. So, I think thats great. Keep going strong.

It's not rhyming that gets me down, it's that pointless rhyming that gets me down. Like:

I want to ride my bike
That's what I like
What I like
Is to ride my bike.

Actually, that just made me laugh.

Either way, your writing tends to have a point to it, so anyone who tells you off for rhyming can go to hell.

SWEET!!! This is exactly how I feel about my stuff. This is great stuff. And rhyming poetry is on the same level with free verse, if not higher. With free verse, you don't have to come up with rhymes that make sense

Me, I don't know one way or the other. I read poetry because I love it. I love it better if it's good, I love it lousy if it isn't. But mostly, I love it. A badly written poem that manages to draw forth some kind of feeling, for me is better than half assed written prose. A poorly composed rhyme that draws forth a positive emotion or connects me with the writer in a way that moves me I'd prefer to a masterpiece on murder, mahem, and suicide.

I like your work fine, just as it is.

Thats what I just did recently, writing to get shit off my chest. I don't care if people even see it, I posted it to let others identify if they can. Let me tell you something, once I wrote it down I have never been better. To quote a Disturbed lyric, "Sensation washes over me. I can't describe it. Pain I felt so long ago, I don't remember". It seems like nothing can touch me, I feel invincible!

Let them laugh when they have abandoned all hopes and life's ills have driven them to maddeness.

Good way to be. I am very much the same way... because I have no intention of publishing (at least, not much) professionally, I'm content to lack proper punctuation or form or whatever. I like rhyme, but I suck at it, so I usually don't bother. I admire anyone who can rhyme and sound sincere about it.
