Description I had to take a break from horses lol. The reference is a picture I took at the local zoo. The picture itself wasn't great but I liked the composition so I can fix it up in a drawing.

The lion was an adolescent male, just getting his mane in.

All done. Approx 25 hours using a Genius tablet and Corel Painter Essentials.

Wow! The detail in this picture is so epic!! The shadows and individual hairs make it seem very realistic...almost like a photo.
I must ask you (please don't think me rude) did you have formal training for art?

Definitely not a rude question lol, but I have had no training past a few art classes in highschool. I had been drawing since I was 2, so in highschool my teachers basically just got me materials and let me loose lol.
