Thanks so much! I didn't expect such a reward for being so new to digital art! It's really motivating to have my sculpt next to those great works of art! I'll definitely have to add a little more to it.

I hear ya! You can't really beat it, considering it's free and you can even do the paint up afterwards. Looks like you've got some skills with it. Thanks, man!

Will, I've fooled around in it a bit...still have a ways to go. Thank you for the compliment, though.

It took about a week, though a good many hours on a few of those days.

Thanks, bro! Got the Huion pro tablet and the new laptop, so I'm good to go...just need to get zbrush now.....I would have already got it, but my AC busted....costing me a shit ton to get a new coil in that damn thing! Anyway, I'm hoping zbrush will be easier to manage and bring out more detail. It seems sculptris is pretty basic stuff with fairly limited options...gets you hooked though...which I'm sure is the point lol. Thanks again for all the info, buddy!

lol. I hear ya Chris; always something goes wrong when you want cash for something you want! story of my life anyhoo!! Z Brush is just bigger and so perhaps you might not use all of it but it sure can do amazing things with the basics.
keep on with the Sculptris though, I like what I'm seeing buddy.

I saw a lot of cool meshes that are included in zbrush...I could definitely create something more detailed and probably faster with a base mesh. I just wish my AC wouldn't have busted...It's going to be in the 90s all week!!

don't sweat it Chris. ( or do! 90's eh? wow! ) I am happy to share some base meshes with you if they work ok in Sculptris. Though, these days most folks just make them from spheres but the Z Spheres rig is still a great method. Others use 3DS Max or Maya for low res box meshes. You can do this for free by downloadin Blender for free. It's a mixed program with sculpting and box modelling.

ahh...so what exactly does blender do? Lower the poly count? Doesnt zbrush come with some pre-loaded meshes or is everything I'm seeing on youtube other than brushes a download from some other place?

Tim-Osullivan In reply to sup3rs3d3d [2014-06-17 22:06:53 +0000 UTC]
ah no, don't wanna confuse you there Chris. Blender is like Maya but free so you can make Box Meshes in very low res. If you're getting ZB anyhoo then don't worry about it. ZB comes with all the Bells and Whistles!!!

Oh...well, I hope to make the tube frame sort of like alavi kurram does in his silver surger video and then build from there...or start with a base of a torso and arms and build it up. I'm not 100% clear on how it all works or what the possibilities really are bc I havent got a chance to use it, but I hope I can replicate what I've seen in videos without more software...unless its free : D I remember being told I need maya and zbrush for the older version of zbrush. I hope I can do everything I need to in such an expensive program. It looks like it.

Yep, found it. Khurram is using ZShperes to build a rig the a base mesh from that. It's part of Z Brush from the older days but still powerful and relevant today.
It works like this; you draw new spheres in areas to create the shape along with the Transpose tools ( Move, Rotate, Scale) to grow, shrink or lengthen/move the 'chains' of these spheres. Once you have a shape you need, you convert the 'Rig' to a Basemesh by hitting a button called 'Make adaptive skin'. This turns it from the rig into a sculptable mesh.
You can mix and match these days too, start with a Dynamsh sphere, shape it and make other parts or bits from Z Spheres such as Hair for instance.
hope that helps clear up things a touch. You'll get more savvy once you look at ZB each day Chris.

ok, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up a bit. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it once I'm able to play with it. I sent you a few videos in a previous msg. I liked the chain, belt and zipper mesh...I guess that's preloaded? The guy (liam) also had torso and arm meshes....it would be pretty cool to already have a base model to build on like that. Save a lot of time and I could really bring out the muscles and frame by stretching or enlarging certain areas.

Other useful Brushes and meshes can be found free to download on ZB Central such as the Zipper Mesh brush Chris. You can also get Alphas (patterns) and Matcaps (colored clays) there too. Have a nose and see.

ah, right, the torso is a Brush that ships with ZB from The Insert Mesh selection. Yes, very useful for speed, not cheating either since it is so basic. I think ZB will be a coo tool for you Chris. :0

Nice!! I was hoping. I would morph that torso into something it isnt and it's not like I couldn't make my own and better if I need to, but it will be nice to sculpt much faster. It sucks that traditional takes months to complete...It'll be quite refreshing to finish something in a few weeks.

...and once you have the software, you never pay for clay again! It's like a never ending supply of digital plasticine!! I find the space issue a bother with clay ups. You gets so many that you wonder where to put em!!
