The last time I did some proper Sonic fan art was like.....years ago now. I still DRAW him, but haven't really drawn, coloured and cleaned up one.Now I have.
This drawing could be a lot better: background and colouring still aches me, but I can't seem to figure how to improve it. Next one: no ground shot.
I'm a Sonic fan from way back since the Mega Drive years (even got the first Archie Sonic comic, NERD ALERT!) My Sonic fandom has taken a beating over the recent splash of games. And while I can respect that other people like these games, a lot of them just left me going "....buh-wha?"
Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 was just....augh. Finished his levels, haven't touched it since.
But at the heart of it, even if I no longer buy every game just because it has Sonic on the title, I still admire him. He was the one who inspired me to draw.
It all started with Sonic, the fastest thing alive.
On another note, I am playing Sonic Unleashed. Why? It has Super Sonic in the opening sequence.

this is nice, I like that there's some one out there that doesn't hate other for liking the new sonic games. I'll play a few of the newer games but yea the franchise is going down hill. oh btw this pic is the first comment and fav

Eh, Shadow's story in 06 was better. Leastways, you don't have to save the SAME PRINCESS in what seems like every other level. I want to rescue someone, I'll play Super Mario.
I like how Sonic owns a platoon of robots in the beginning. And then later (spoiler) kills the baddie by flying through his brain.

The slight breakaway of the foot certainly indicates a blur of speed (not to mention the blurred background) and I love the colouring and shading.
And Sonic with his determined expression...

I really like the shading on Sonic, it's simple but very dramatic. I'm drawn to the detail that you put with Sonic's foot hitting the groud for some reason. XD Very nice!
And the concentration on that kid's face--holy cow Eggman better look out!

Ah, man... this is just really cool. I'm amazed that this ... even resembled those earlier sketches.
Hm... but that's not really constructive criticism, is it?
Alright. I have been quite fascinated with the slight 'blur' you added to Sonic's foremost shoe, and that you added it to the rocks underneath his foot just... makes it feel connected.
The motion blur in the background was also a nice effect (I noticed it most in the plants).
It's also interesting how, when some portions cast a shadow, it is given instant priority over any other shadows it may or may not have had. I noticed this with the shadow of the nose, the shadow of one of the spines, and the shadow in front of the teeth...
...it quite intrigues me.
But good picture! You did a great job!

Nice! I loved the Sonic Archie comics, probably as much as the games. Thinking back, it was pretty much the ONLY comic that wasn't about 'roided-up superheroes.

Sonic Unleashed just may be the revival we need.
Its not the Sonic Adventure 3 we all hoped for, but it certainly is a step in the right direction IMO.

Great job! Sonic also inspired me to begin drawing character art when I was little; I was a total Sonic freak. I'm still a fan despite the sad turn the games have taken lately; I just stick with the original Sega Genesis games and Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 when I need my fix. I have nearly all of the Archie comics, I think I'm just missing 2 and 3 of the original mini-series. Oh I am so aching for a GOOD Sonic game again, I hope Unleashed doesn't disappoint.
