Description
A raku-glazed chess set i made a few years ago. It's one of my favorite pieces of mine. I slab-rolled the board and hand-made the pieces, tho one of these days i'm gonna remake them (they're just weird abstract pieces, and i wanna redo them). I used 2 different raku glazes, a shiny green one and White Crackle.Stoneware, Raku
UPDATE:
I have submitted an alternate photo of this piece into my scraps: [link]

this is truly amazing. Pottery and chess are two things that inspire me. I will make my own chess set, thanks to your own inspiration.

Cool Chess set! Very nice. I made a chess set like this when I was in High School. ^_^

For the win! I think the rustic half-formed look of the pieces works well with the overall idea.

This is amazing! The different colors and textures makes it so alive, I can almost see how they are moving by them self..
I really like the horses and towers, all of them have a lot of character. Great work!!

Dang man, this is sweet! The board's awesome by itself, so it doesn't need to be remade, but i'll agree with you on the pieces. Can Sculpey clay be glazed/raku'd? If so, try that, and take your time to make some more great details. If sculpey can't do that, i think you'll need some kind of wire base to keep them sturdy.
But at any rate, this is still quite good ^.=.^

II don;t think sculpey will work, but the pieces came out so bad cuz i spent very little time on them, i had very little experience at this point with clay, and i shudve spent more time on the design of the pieces. Thanks for the !

Hey what a great set! That's a fantastic idea. The glazes sure worked well in the board pattern.

this is incredible!! really, wow i don't think that you should remake the pieces. their abstract appearance suits the general style, it makes it very original. standard shaped peices are quite boring so this brings something new to the design of chess pieces. i think that an alternative could be making these pieces also abstract but very detailed, elements from Gaudi's cathedral and any neo-gothic stuff would work well but it's a hell of a lot of work so what you have atm works well

I love the look of the board, like ~nicolebee said, very earthy. Way to put my glass chess set to shame.
