Description
I planted a whole bunch of basil seeds in a pot. A few short days later, they peeked through the earth and started striving for the light. Theirs is a race for life. Every day they reach higher and higher. The slower plants will eventually die, weakened and overshadowed by their more viable neighbours. Observing this, it strikes me that although we are human, we are still bound to our underlying natural struggles.Related content

So beautiful. Very simple and effective. The elements that are in the shot - are just about perfect. The color, the light (and shadow, the composition, the angle you chose all work perfeclty together to create that feel, of being one of them

we are not bound, we are dependent.... How would millions of years of evolution, not lead us into being dependent of our natural instincts and needs?
If anything, we try to mask them.... very ineffectively, sometimes...

Tres cool abstract.
The exposure is perfect, strong colours and contrast really make it stand out. Supported nicely by your description.
Would've liked to have seen better balance on the bottom though.
Either way. I like.

i hope the catnip I plant this weekend does as well...
very fun picture, with the light and glowing green and such and the glimpses of the fuzziness of the stems...mmm...fuzziness!!
natural struggles are a pain in the bum... why can't they just SHARE THE SUNLIGHT! there's plenty for everyone..

The light and shadow is what grabs me with this shot. Makes me think of army fatigues and a jungle

I never cease to be amazed at how you always seem to find beautiful things everywhere. It is almost as if you don't have to look for them, they find you.

Nice shot, the high key look and shallow depth of field looks pretty nice. Usually I don't care for blown out highlights but it's done nicely here.

Wow, I never thought basil could be so...vicious. I was thinking of some film like "A Million Years BC" when reading this, basil fighting it out whilst grunting at each other, or maybe it's just because I like picturing Raquel Welch in that fur bikini...

He he, the basil could be stop-animated by Ray Haryhausen, that would be great!

Oh the lighting is just magnificent. How they appear so fragile and lucid, and yet strong and full of life at the same time. You really do make everything beautiful dont you.
