lol well the "glass" is actually just a plastic shower curtain, so you could just use a pair of scissors. attempting to break it might hurt hesi.

As usual, this shot is full of emotion. Although its from the same session, it says something completely different than the one before it. For some reason it reminds me of a scene from "A Christmas Carol" where Scrooge is looking through the window of the Cratchit house as it begins to dawn on him what Christmas is supposed to be about. It also speaks to me of longing. Wishing she had whatever she's looking at on the other side of the window.. whether it be love, joy, warmth, food, who knows.
At any rate, bravisimo on another fine shot

I like your use of the focus in this picture very much ( the idea of 'hiding' the face in shadows and blurryness is fascinating). I'd really like to know how long you're working on one of these pictures

it took about an hour to shoot this one and the other from the series.

It's interesting how much emotional difference a relatively small change can make. I think the tonal change has had a large effect on how I feel about this compared with the earlier one.

Thank is sooo amazing!! Your photos are so unique and original... The composition and the lighting are just so perfect.
How did you do this? With a window and water?

superkev In reply to Shalora [2005-01-09 04:06:56 +0000 UTC]
thank you. it was done with a clear shower curtain. i set it up in my studio and hesi used a water bottle to spray it before each shot.

very different mood indeed. the other one was her being sad about leaving her home, friends, family and everything else she had loved or was used to .. but this one screams "homesick". so many things can be going through her head ..
"is mom alright? is the cat eing fed? shit! did i leave the oven on?" and stuff like that. she is probably thinking of any reason to go back .. she knows she really won't .. she's just a little paranoid and a lot melancholy at the moment.
- semi-techy stuff -
that lighting is magnifalicious .. you are highly skilled with the art of lighting .. you control it and make wonderful things.

the best way to learn is to experiment... and use anything except the flash built into your camera!

Im actually going to buy a cord to hook up my Vivita falsh to use off camera tommorow, for my Canon EOS Rebel G.
But that picture i posted before was the on camera flash of my Olympus Stylus point and shoot.

yeah getting the cord for the off-camera flash will really add a lot of creative possibilities for you. it could be a turning point!

Well here is my first attempt at using my corded flash. I am not sure how to use all the setting things on it... (there are only 2)

It was at a local music show where i take most of my pictures, (I just dont feature them in my gallery).
For comparisin, here are two without the flash: [link] [link]

i couldn't see the non-flash ones, but the one with the flash is a good start. focus is a bit of an issue though. it's a bit blurry. have fun experimenting!

xEXILEDx In reply to superkev [2005-01-16 20:09:04 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, That ones was with auto focus because the auto focus has a little light that turns on to check everything. At these shows I have no way to see if the focus is right. I dont really like using the auto focus but I dont know of an alternative.
The shot was taken at 1/2000 and the lowest depth setting I could get. So that might have been why the blur is showing. Also I dont know how to work all the functions on the flash.

superkev In reply to xEXILEDx [2005-01-16 20:23:02 +0000 UTC]
when you're shooting with flash, shutter speed is ALWAYS set to 1/125. you adjust aperture to get proper exposure, which you calculate based on the distance to the subject and the info printed on the flash. the 283 has a color-coded system that automatically sets flash duration depending on how far you are from the subject. most cams will allow you to set focus by pointing the centre of the frame at the part you want in focus, half-pressing shutter, recomposing, then shooting.
