i think it is as effective as it is because it is so casual and relaxed. it's as though you saw a stranger standing in the door way and took a quick snap shot.
i love the light falling on her breast and the oh so comfortable pose.

Just wanted to tell you how great I think this photo is. The manner in which this photo is posed really give off an air of relaxation and calmness. The tattooes and earrings, and just Allison's general style give us a great insight into her character. The hair sits beautifully aswell, highlighting the easy-going manner she's picked up. Wonderfully lit (as always with you) and technically spot on (I rarely see anything less from you), this has to be a fav for sure

It's interesting to look at your gallery and to see your style evolution...
Your a great portraits photographer, but this shot is a bit better thabn the other according to me. 'coz the light nuances, the colors, the perfect crop, and the pose. The perfect focus between her and the mirror.
It's very difficult to have the model personnality in the shots, but you got it here.

the tats work really well with the shirt she's wearing and the curve of her back... I really like the curves in this, that her back, and arms-n-stuff create in the position she's in... (which is a really good pose)
Her face is good also, with the lighting-n-stuff on it...

regarding the lighting: while i love the photo overall - the light on the hand does detract a bit. i was looking for the "story" or "theme" suggested by your title and the light on the hand doesn't jibe with the lighting i'd expect in a "night" shot. the overhead lighting suggests moonlight but the glare on the hand confounds that and comes off as "artificial". although the highlighting of her hair and back are very nice.
shot composition? i love it. great pose and subject (she's captivating).
well-done, i really do like the piece overall.
