Description
"She'll chew you up and spit you out, and you'll love every heart-pounding moment of it."This is a portrait of *Moonbeam13 . Those of you who know her know that above all, she's warm, loving and kind. If you know her, you'll also know she's terribly afraid to be in front of a camera. It's only because she is so warm, loving and kind that she agreed to allow me to photograph her as "goth cheerleader," in order to raise the spirits of one of her friends who is desperately in need of cheering up. The fact that she was able to surmount her fears and slip into this confident, sexy, man-devouring character is testament to her wonderful modelling skills.
Tech:
Lit with 2 flashes fitted with grids to create a spotlight effect. One directly above, and one to the oblique right to light her face.

what a wonderful shot of Danie! I think it would also look great with some negative space at the top too - but that's just a personal thing - I still dig it a lot

ahh. finally a picture of her. as i looked through her gallery i came to the conclusion that she has a unique way of seeing things. the pose and all does seem out of character, but i hope it helped cheer her friend up. i like how her eyes are almost closed, but not quite. her hands do look oddly wrinkled, but as already said, it's probably pose and lighting.

ah this is great...I absolutely LOVE the lighting and shadows, and the contrast between the two, makes the shot so much better...it's really nice.
I especially love the shadows across her mouth, and ESPECIALLY her hands...I love the way her hands stand out in this.
her whole outfit is nice, and the fishnets are a nice touch
and, again, I like the sort of dark colors, which set a mood for the whole shot

There is this beautiful languid and harsh feeling in this shot. The lighting is superb.
And I mean languid in a good way, as it seems that is what voice this piece has.
It's gorgeous.

Wonderful elusive photograph. The light is very capturing around her face and is a nice glow. I, too, was thinking about her hands and I was told once that when posing to try to avoid having your hands/fingers dangle downward as they can make the fingers look awkward. But, instead, try to cup or curl your hand is more appealing. However, it is more natural in the way her hands are shown. Just an eye trick that might help sometime.
Her essence is really revealed here. Beautiful job She is a stunning model.

i find it amusing that you called this piece "satify me" and she's wearing a "gemini" shirt. gemini's are stereotypically indescive and not easily satisfied. heh.
excellent pohoto; love the lighting.

I know you have dabbled in the style of George Hurrell in the past, but I would love to see you do a classic Hollywood glamour shot with this model. I think its the expression youve captured on her face, that leads me to think you could pull off a classic shot like Hurrell. He photographed alot of stars, but light was one of the best stars of his work. I wanna see some classic Hurrell styled B&Ws...lol
again on this work.

you are a teacher of the illumination, I liked so much the contrast between of urban and common clothes and the dramatic pose, usually the photographers prefers to use elaborated clothes that can arrive at the medieval clothes point, however your you used common clothes without altering the dramatic quality, rather heightens it in my opinion, brilliant taking friend

thank you for your kind comment. i believe that drama comes from the person, their pose, their demeanor, their expression, their emotion and optionally their relationship with the viewer, other subjects, props, etc. i can add to drama with light and composition. far down the list is clothing. i'm glad you enjoy the piece.

i complete agree with you, you said it all, that is the key of making drama, the person and it skills, not the clothes

Very very nice. I can see the light set up as you discribed it and I can't thank you enough for explaining once again how you created such dramatic effect. Studio photography is more 'painting with light' then I ever even realized now that I'm into it.
Either way, its a facinating photo, filled with light and emotion. If I hadn't said it in the last photo I'd definatly say that I think you've overcome one of your last vaults in your photography and I find that amazing. The technical power you bring to the table coupled with your incredible ability to capture emotion and now most undenieably story, makes your work something truly a thing to inspire.
Also, I want to comment on the wonderful job Moonbeam did. For being someone whos 'awkward' infront of a camera you certainly didn't show it in this shot. I hope your friend is feeling better.
Your my hero Superkev!!!

a credit to your sensitivity as a photog that she allowed you to take this photo, esp since you say she hates doing it
this is great, the lighting is quite bright, but it isn't harsh
I really love how the flashes have touched her face and her hands are producing some great shadows
well done

Extra props to ya Moonbeam for being a gemini or at least i assume you are. This would have to be one of the few times you haven't lit the background as well but it seems to give the portrait an almost intimate feel to it. Fab as always and you just gotta love the fishnets.
