Wow. I adore this picture. Aside from the technical genius with the lighting and that hint of red.. it's really the subject matter that's tugging at my soul.
I love that I can see the indentation of your fingers into your skin, really pressing with the physical to feel the emotional.. the crossing of the arms really suggests some degree of fear, or hesitation, but your tones and that deep press.. really give me a sense of longing and desire.
This is a really powerful piece, I quite enjoy it.

the shadows give the image an adorable depth and split the image in four 'layers'. left arm, right arm, chest, background itself.

Nice expression and amazing use of light, I just wish I had a studio or some lights to play with, this would add a bit to my creativity for shots like these, even if I don't have a torso like yours

I'm too self-conscious to do a piece like this, but I'm glad you aren't. I think you have achieved the expressive mood you were aiming for; something semi-erotic, but also very contemplative and almost sad. I guess you're standing against a regular wall, but even the color of the background is perfect, the lighting is very subtle and not overdone.
What I love about these kinds of pieces (close-frame portraiture and body shots) is the skin texture, and this really brings that to bear. The very subtle light against your left forearm in the bottom of the frame is perfect, just a hint among the shadow that consumes 1/3 of the frame. Well composed, well lit, and well executed. Congrats.

oooo, this is something! i looovee the texture of the skin, u caught it really well. the other side is fairly dark...but i must assume u wanted it that way... in any way this feels really warm, loving, close but yet sad in a away, because there is maybe a feeling of loneliness...

Ooooh I love the soft lighting in this .. what light to you use, is it possible to recreate this kind of lighting using lamps and stuff from round a normal house? I'm trying to finding it hard to create a certain level of directionless ambient lighting to boost a single focus direction lamp.
I love the open to interpretation of this photo, I like it because your opinions of what it emotes changes with every day depending on the emotions you bring to it when you view it. Great work.

as for the lighting, it's probably nearly impossible to create this exact lighting from normal lamps. it's actually single, vey powerful direct light (studio strobe), and it's not diffused. the deep shadow and light balance comes from using a small aperture on the camera, so the light " falls off" very quickly. but to do this, you have to put a lot of light on the subject, and only the subject so the rest of the photo stays in darkness. it's like a spotlight in a dark theatre. i guess you might be able to do it if you had the rest of the room in complete darkness, and focussed the light very tightly on your subject, so it didn't "bleed" away to the rest of the room. then you would have to compensate for the lack of brightness with a long exposure. have fun playing with it!

Wicked chiaroscuro bud!! Awesome painterly feel to this, wich adds to the warmth of the image. I think my main concern with this crop is that your neck almost seems distortedly long. I'm not sure I'd do it any different tho, except to perhaps bring the hands up a tiny bit more with cropping a tiny bit off the top. BUT, I DO like the hands central in the image here ... so I guess I'm at an impasse with regard to suggestions

you're right. the RAW file was processed slightly "warm" which would cause that reddish tint. good eye!
